Time passed slowly but, finally, the weekend arrived and that meant that it was time for Heejin's party. Her unexpected announcement slowly turned into the biggest news on the campus. People hadn't seen a party in a while, so everyone seemed quite excited about it. Also, the guest list just kept getting longer and longer with time. I can't say that the fact that there were going to be a shit ton of people made me happy, but it sure gave Heejin some energy. It seemed like she didn't expect so many people turn up, but now that it actually happened, she couldn't help but feel enthusiastic. Another person who seemed to be burning with passion was no one else, but Chaewon. She was so excited that she even said that she'd try to dress like it was an important occasion.
"Chaewon"- I asked her once- "what makes you so excited about this party anyway? You're not someone who enjoys spending time with a lot of people. I just don't see where you're getting the hype from".
"Well, Hyejoo, let's just say I have my reasons. Besides, do you have anything against me being excited?"- as she said this, she looked at me with her traditional mean face. Looking at her made me smile.
"You know I don't, Chae. Just curiosity".
So, when there were two hours left until the party, I couldn't help but wonder what Chaewon would be like at a party. As I was in my thoughts, I heard the bathroom door open and Yerim rushed out.
"I'm gonna be late i'm gonna be late!!!"
"No, Yerim, you're not, we have two hours left until the party. You'll be fine if you just relax".
"Well, Yeojin will come here earlier and I don't want to look like I was hit by a truck when she's here!"
"Yerim, you keep denying that you're in a relationship, but then tell me about how much you worry about your appearance around Yeojin which just speaks otherwise. In any case, I assure you that you don't look like you got hit by a truck and, even if you did, I'm sure Yeo wouldn't mind. Just calm down for a sec".
Yerim looked at me for a second, then sighed and went back to getting ready. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door.
"ALREADY?"- Yerim exclaimed as I was about to open the door. Luckily for Yerim's mental well-being, the person at the door happened to be Sooyoung and Jiwoo was with her too.
"Hyejooyah~"- Jiwoo said and hugged me. This girl is a little too affectionate for my liking.
"Hi Jiwoo, Hi Sooyoung, come on in and join me in watching Yerim slowly lose her mind".
"Oh? Yerimie, why are you losing your mind?"- asked Jiwoo as she was approaching my roommate.
"Because I won't be ready on time!! Ah, Jiwoo, It's stressing me out!"
"Jeez, Yerim, how dramatic can you get? It's a party, not some boujee gala"- said Sooyoung and I couldn't agree more. As she said this, she looked at me:
"You don't seem to be stressed at all, Hyejoo. I'm sure you won't worry about looking presentable either".
"You know me. I'll put on a hoodie and some high waisted Jeans and I'm all set. No reason for stress".
As I replied this, she leaned over and whispered in my ear:
"Well, you might be carefree now, but i'm sure you won't be when you see Chaewon".
Because she said this, she ended up receiving a nudge from me. It only made her chuckle. She was about to turn around, but before that she mouthed the word: "Whipped". Ugh, I despise her sometimes.
I looked at Yerim and saw that Jiwoo was helping her out with her hair.
"Your hair is so soft, Yerimie, show me what shampoo you use when we're done"- she said to the younger girl as she was brushing her hair.
"Alright~ thank you for helping"
"No worries".
After some time, Yerim had successfully finished getting ready with Jiwoo's help and, to be honest, she looked stunning. I could see why Yeojin would fall for her. Just the moment I thought of her, I heard a knock at the door. This time Sooyoung opened it and we saw Yeojin standing at the doorstep. She was about to walk in but the moment she saw Yerim, she froze.
"Y-Ye-Yerim you-"
"Huh? What's up Yeojin?"- asked Yerim who was clearly confused.
"You look... so beautiful".
"Oh"- as she heard this compliment, we all saw her blush.
"Aaaawhhh, the kids are in looooveeeee this is adorable!!!"- said Sooyoung in her teasingly fashion and, as a result, earned stares from both Yeojin and Yerim.
"Sooyoungie, stop teasing them so much. It's not nice. Also, now that everyone's here, we should probably head out. We also have to grab Jungeun on our way, so we don't really have that much time"- Jiwoo entered the conversation, in hopes of covering the embarrassment caused by her girlfriend.
"You're right about that, Jiwoo. Let's get going then. Hyejoo, you ready?"- asked Sooyoung.
"Oh, just give me a second"- I said this and got up, opened my closet and did exactly what I said i'd do: grabbed a black hoodie and put it on. No drama.
"Jeez, Hyejoo, you sure put a lot of effort into your outfits, don't you?"- asked Yerim who seemed somewhat jealous of the fact that I could just put on anything instead of spending hours for preparations. I decided to leave her "attack" unanswered and walked out of the room, with the rest of them following me. We grabbed Jungeun on our way, who didn't seem like her usual overdressed self either. The only thing that was the same as always was her bright red lipstick. I couldn't help but remember Jinsol and how she felt the last time I saw her. Was Jungeun the same as well? In any case, there was no time to ask about that.
We walked out of the building and sat in Sooyoung's car. She was the only one who actually had a license, but every time she drove us somewhere I wondered whether or not she bribed someone to get one.
"Sooyoung, i swear, you're gonna get me killed in a car accident one day"- I said to her as she clearly crossed a red light.
"Stop being a scaredy-cat, Hyejoo, I'm not a bad driver".
"The line that you're driving in right now is just as straight as your sexuality but go off I guess"- said Yeojin, which made all of us chuckle.
"Don't make me throw you out of the window, midget!"- Sooyoung replied in a seemingly offended tone. After fifteen minutes of hell we had finally arrived at the party. We all knew that Heejin's house was big, but it was still impressive to look at. I'm honestly surprised she chose to live in the dorm room when she could've stayed here.
We walked into the party and a lot of guests had already arrived, some of them already holding drinks and dancing.
"Yah! So you all came after all!"- we turned around to see Heejin with a big smile on her face and Hyunjin accompanying her.
"You know we couldn't say no to you, Hekkie"- replied Jiwoo.
"Yeah. Besides, this party's gonna be lit and I wouldn't miss it for shit"- Sooyoung followed up in a less adorable manner but none of us expected anything else from her.
"Well, in any case, I'm happy to see you all. Now go grab some drinks and have fun!"
"Say less. Come on, Yerim"- said Yeojin grabbing Yerim's hand and dragging her out of my line of sight.
"Well, we're gonna go too then. Hyejoo, call me if you need anything, okay?"- said Sooyoung.
"We both know that you'll be too wasted to pick up, Sooyoung, but thanks for the offer"- she flashed her big smile at me and then walked away with her hand over Jiwoo's shoulders. It was only me and Jungeun now.
"Well, miss Son, seems like it's just the single people now"- she said to me.
"Seems like it, miss Kim".
As I said this, I saw her open her mouth to say something, but suddenly, she just froze and looked in a different direction. I followed her eyes, partially knowing who I was going to see and ended up looking at Jinsol, who was at the other end of the room. I looked at Jungeun for a moment and then said:
"Jungeun. This is exhausting to look at. Can you maybe tell me what's happening between you and Jinsol? You both look like you're suffering ever since that confession or whatever happened. You know that I won't spill the secrets anywhere. I'm just tired of watching y'all".
"Well"- she answered-" guess I won't lose anything if I tell you. Basically, everyone knows that I and Jinsol hooked up once, during our first year. Ever since there has been this tension between us, but neither me nor her seemed to be down for a relationship. So, we've kept our distances. That was until the confession happened. She rushed to me and told me not to accept it. What started as a conversation turned into a heated argument- I hated the fact that she was not down to actually date me but wouldn't let me go out with anyone else, either. So, in the end I told her that she's being possessive and that I don't want to speak to her ever again. But, even though I was really mad at her, I still couldn't bring myself to meet up with the guy. It felt wrong. I later realized that all I want is Jinsol- not some guy who confesses to me through a letter, but that won't change the fact that I shooed her away. So now I don't know how to speak to her again. Hell, I don't even know it she'll want to talk to me or not. Honestly, Hye, I feel like an idiot".
"Ehh... this turned out to be a little more heated than I thought it would be. In any case, my narrative won't change: I think that you should get up this very second, walk up to Jinsol and ask her to talk. I'm sure she'll accept it. Actually, she'll be happy to hear from you. Trust me on this one. Also, don't start making up a speech beforehand. Just say what your heart tells you to say. Don't hold back. I'm sure it will be fine. You're Kim Jungeun, after all. Your specialty is to go for it and never stop"- as she heard me say this she chuckled, then looked at me and said:
"You know what? i might just follow your advice and do it. Fuck everything, I only live once. Wish me luck, Hyejoo and thanks for listening "- she said this and shot up, walking in Jinsol's direction.
"Good luck"- I said to her but I don't think she heard me. So, just like that, I was all alone. But not for long. After a few minutes I heard a familiar voice call my name. I turned around to see her.
Park Chaewon.
"Hyejoo!!! I'm glad you're actually here~ I was a little late but it's alright. Umm... hello? Planet earth to Hyejoo? Are you there?"
I could hear her voice but I just sat there dumbfounded, not being able to respond. She looked so fucking pretty. I could barely keep my breath steady just looking at her. At last, I managed to speak up:
"Chaewon, You're the most beautiful girl in the room".
As I said this she stopped for a bit, seemingly shocked. I felt like I saw her blush, too, but it's probably the lighting and my imagination again.
"Oh... that's a huge compliment, Hyejoo, thank you"- as she said this, she flashed her smile. A smile that could kill with it's perfection. One I could look at for hours without getting bored.
I want Park Chaewon to be mine. I'm not brave enough, but I want it. A girl can only dream, I guess.
I finally snapped back to reality and said: "I'll go grab some drinks for us, Chae, you stay here for a bit".
"Alright. I'll be waiting".
