"Don't stay out past ten-thirty," my mother finally says.
"How did you know?" I asked.
"Mother's instinct," she smiled, prancing off.

Last night in the city, we had all returned home pretty late. Aside from having Mcdonalds for dinner, going to random clothing stores and trying on almost everything in stock - we all had a good time. Shawn, somehow, had managed to tag along with us. Overall, I've learned that he's a pretty chill guy who really likes soft-serve ice cream.
"Man," Alice sighs, "you really need to start watching anime."
I open my mouth to speak, but she quickly continues on.
"It'll make you cry. And I know, you're probably thinking about how weird it is. But don't worry, it really isn't that weird. Can't be weirder than Riverdale. But aside from that, I recommend watching 'Demon Slayer' or 'Attack on Titan'. Once you watch those two, I've got more waiting for you."
"Um, thanks for the recommendations. But I think i'm going to focus on finishing my own shows before I move on with-"
"Hold that thought," Alice suddenly says. "What the fuck happened to her?"
"Alice I told you that you should stop swearing because-"
"No seriously," Alice cuts in, "what the hell happened to Alexis?"
Alexis hobbles around with a boot on her foot, using crutches to get around. Her posse clamoured around, asking her with concern in their voices as to what happened. Everyone watches in confusion.
"What happened?" Angel cried, "how'd you break your leg?"
"You see," Alexis sadly says. Alice sniggers, and whispers something to me about how much she sounds like Dharman. "I tripped down a flight of stairs, and hurt myself very badly."
She tripped down a flight of stairs? Okay, I don't buy that she managed to get away with just a broken leg. Considering that she definitely broke it not on school property, and probably in her own home doesn't sit right with me. She lives in a house with stairs that are incredibly tall. If she tumbled down a flight of stairs I'm pretty sure that she'd crack her neck.
"Well, excluding that," Alice says, switching the conversation. "Are you ready for that maths test?"
"I hate trigonometry. It's stupid."
"It is," Alice agrees.
"Hey guys," Emily says, catching up to us, along with Lorelei. "What are you all talking about?"
"The trigonometry test," Alice muses, "I didn't study."
"I just don't like trigonometry," I sigh. "You need a calculator to actually calculate the answer, and using a calculator takes all of the fun out of maths."
Everyone pauses their movements, and they all slowly turn to stare at me.
"What do you mean?" Lorelei cries.
"I love calculators!" Emily adds on.
"Same!" Alice exclaims, "what do you mean calculators take out all the fun in maths? They are the fun!"
"Don't you love it when you're solving a difficult math equation, and then you write down all these lines of work? Then you can admire all the lines of work you've done, and then satisfyingly tick the answer when you get it right?"
"What if you didn't get it right?" Lorelei points out.
"I don't get it wrong."
Jolene sniggers in the back. "Jesus Christ Jasmine, this is why our math teacher hates you."
It's true. Ms Gob absolutely hates my guts. It might be because I complete math work in class quicker than anyone else, or it might be because she accidentally got the answer of a math's question wrong and I had gotten it right. She hasn't liked me since the first lesson, and I don't know how I'll survive with her breathing down my back all year.
"Alright, anyways. Excluding Jasmine, who's excited for the musical... Again? Starring Alexis this time?"
"Is she even going to be able to perform with her..." Emily starts, glancing over at Alexis who is now yelling at Angel for being 'inconsiderate'. "Is she even going to be able to perform with her boots and crutches?"
"I doubt it," I dryly say. "I might have to go in for her."
"I hope you do," Lorelei says, "you were just amazing last night."
"Thanks," I awkwardly said. I don't know how to reply to compliments, saying thanks is the best I can do.
"Jasmine!" Mrs G sings, her boots clanking down the halls.
"Who's she dressed up as this time?" Alice sarcastically says, turning around.
Mrs G prances down the hall, dressed up as... Herself... She looks completely normal, in fact, she looks abnormal. She wears a white skirt, and a white collared shirt. Completely normal.
"What happened to your cosplaying?" We all shrieked.
"Oh! Well, sadly, another one of my outfits took a long time to be shipped in. I'm going to have to wait a bit for it to arrive, and I didn't want to wear an outfit that I had already worn for everyone, so I just came in with my usual clothes."
"I thought your cosplaying was your usual."
"Only for school," Mrs G winked. "Anyways, I'm sure you've heard about the tragic news of Alexis breaking her leg. I've just come to let you know that as you two share the role, you'll have to lead tonight. I'm sure that won't be a problem."
"Of course not."
"Alright, I'll be off then!"
Mrs G skips down the hall, humming some peculiar tune.
"Wait," Alice squints, "I KNOW THAT TUNE!"
"What?"
"She was singing the main theme to 'The Promised Neverland!' Why didn't I notice it before? She was dressed just like the kids at the farms! She was cosplaying!"
"I've never heard of that," Jolene thinks, "I don't think I've heard of that show."
"Of course you wouldn't have, it's anime."
"Oh."
"Oh."
"Oh." I add in after.
Alice scoffs, "let's go to that trigonometry test... Shall we?"
