chapter 7

Gretchen's POV

"Alex I won't explain this to you again, the girls are fine I had to get Nora out of there she was in danger." I explain

"Yes, ma'am I understand that but who is watching over the girls now?" Alex asks

"We are watching them Alex don't be stupid." I yell at Alex

"Whatever you say." Alex exclaims while rolling his eyes

"Alex don't roll your eyes at me I am getting really sick of your incompetence." I say

"Yes ma'am." Alex says quietly

Every day I want to fire Alex more and more but he is a danger to me and this experiment as a disgruntled ex-employee.

"Tom, I need you to help me find a way to bring the girls more medical equipment." I say

"Yes of course all start brainstorming right now." Tom says

I stare at the girls on the monitor I am starting to get worried about them but I don't wanna show it especially not in front of that asshole Alex. But I know everything will be okay as long as we get them more meds for Rachel.

"Maybe we can have the plane's medical bag show up and we can have everything Rachel needs in it." Tom suggests

"Yes, yes okay not the pilot's bag but the actual medical bag from the plane, but we can't have it come in the same way because Leah is already suspicious." I say

"Okay, I am on it." Tom says

"Okay Alex I need you to find us a place to bring the bag, it has to be somewhere the girls will look since we don't have Nora to come get it for us but it can't be the same place the bags usually show up since all the girls are becoming increasingly suspicious." I say to Alex

"That's kind of a tall order Gretchen." Alex says with a pissy voice

"I have an idea." Nora says quietly

"Thank God for you Nora, what is it?" I ask

"Well even though Shelby told us about her teeth she still goes down to our old spot to wash her flipper, so I was thinking the night after a tide comes in we could bring the bag there and when Shelby goes to wash her flipper she will find the bag and no one will think anything of it, they all know the tide is bad over there because that's why we had to move." Nora says

"Nora you are brilliant, and just as useful to me here as you were down there."I say

I look at Nora and she gives me a forced half-smile, I can tell she feels bad that Rachel is out there on her own, and I can tell just by looking at her she wants to help.

"Nora thank you this is really gonna help those girls especially Rachel." I tell Nora while smiling

Nora looks at me and smiles a little more sincerely this time.

"Okay well according to the tracking we have been doing of the tide so far we should have some big waves rolling in tomorrow." Alex tells us

"Great after the tide comes in you can drop the bag off, and then we hope one of the girls finds it." I tell Alex

I am relieved we got this worked out because we can't let some setbacks stop the entire experiment, it's too important.

Two days later Alex heads off to the island and Nora comes too so she can check on Rachel up close.

Nora's POV

I decided to come with Alex so I could check on Rachel I feel so bad that she is there on her own, when Gretchen asked me to do this I thought it would help me and Rachel and for a second it kinda did she was getting better but I didn't know how bad it was gonna be. Gretchen failed to tell me how little resources we would have, she also didn't inform me that she would keep us down there no matter what even if things got really bad. I am so mad at Gretchen for manipulating me and not giving me the full story and I want to quit but I know if I do Rachel will be on the island with no one to watch her and I can't do that to her.

"Thank you for letting me come." I say to Alex

"Yeah of course." He says quietly

I look over and see Rachel peacefully sleeping in Martha's lap. She seems to be doing okay witch is a relief. Suddenly I look over when I hear Alex break the silence as we pull up to the island.

"So do you think Rachel will forgive you after all this?" He asks

"Well um Gretchen's gonna have the fake rescue team go out and look for me and after the girls are done being talked to and they are ready to be released the rescue team will say they found me, so hopefully Rachel will never have to know." I say feeling guilty

"Oh, well I'm gonna go put this up on the sand." Alex says quietly

I watch him place the medical bag on the sand and we quickly and quietly leave, I wished I could stay and hold Rachel or talk to her, anything that would help but I can't.
