These next couple of oneshots will be based off prompts given for the writing portion of a contest I'm participating in. I do have a request for part three of "Runaway Baby" which will come after I've finished all the oneshots for the contest. :)
DEEP END (mermaid/merman au)-legend says that if one was to hear the berceuse, they would be lulled to a watery death. Yet this particular mermaid/merman begins to fall for the human they're supposed to drown.
--------
Children living by the seaside are told myths and legends by their parents. Stories of fairies, loch ness monsters, and even of merpeople who lived right underneath the very waters they lived near. However, there's always been one story, a legend about the merpeople that parents tell their children each generation as a warning.
The underwater kingdom of Teyvat is supposedly known as a large kingdom holding a large number of merpeople who looked up to their respective oceanic region's king or queen. Seven regions of the large Teyvatan kingdom are known very well by the people above land.
One of the most common legends told to children is the legend of the V̶a̶g̶a̶b̶o̶n̶d̶ S̶w̶o̶r̶d̶ lullabies sung by merpeople. The sole purpose of their lullabies are to lure sailors and fishermen to their deaths.
Being that you were born near the seaside and both your parents are fishermen, you were not excused from being told of these legends and although these stories had given you fright when you were younger, now that you were older they didn't affect you as much. Still, you never forgot the countless stories of sailors and fishermen alike being lured to their deaths underneath the clear blue waters of the ocean.
Going back many, many centuries, your family was known to be the best of the best fishermen in the small town you lived in. Both your parents worked full time out on the water all day long, every single day of the week unless the weather was too bad to work outside. As expected from a long line of fishermen, you were taught the ways of fishing.
Fishing was a fun experience, but you could never imagine yourself catching fish for a living. Actually, you had a problem with being forced to become a fisherman and that was because of the fact that your parents overfished. At first the problem was very small and some days they'd return home with less fish than usual.
But in the past couple of months the ocean had seen an abundance of fish appearing seemingly out of nowhere. Your parents basically had gold coins shining in their eyes as they hurried out to catch as many fish as they could. Each day they'd come home with more and more fish each day.
Worried that they were overfishing and that the fish population would be endangered, you tried to convince them to lessen the amount of poor fish they were catching. They would not listen to the reasoning and your pleas as they saw you as a mere child who didn't know any better about the business of being a fisherman.
You could only watch in sadness as your parents continued to overfish and you thought it couldn't get worse from there, but oh how you were wrong.
One day you were strolling on the sandy beaches near the quaint house you lived in for all your life. Barefoot, you walked along the shore and admired the clear blue waters. The waves crashed against your feet and you basked in the warmth of the sun that clashed with the coolness of the wet water.
As you looked out into the vast cerulean ocean, a floating object piqued your interest. Intrigued by this, you disregarded the fact that your clothes would become drenched and swam out.
Upon getting closer to this mystery object, you found that it was a piece of trash. An unknown object brushed against your leg causing you to look around and to your horror and absolute surprise, there was trash everywhere creating a small island that was polluting the water.
