Holy shiza I finally finished it after 3 months— I apologise for taking that long on a oneshot, but er...life happens. My main focus has been on my Scaramouche fanfic so that's also a reason haha.
How's 2.6 been? I quite enjoyed exploring The Chasm and as always, the music slaps hard and they never fail to impress me with the soundtracks. The Irodori Festival was also really fun and I hope to see some more Scaramouche in the future!
Oh yeah...I hope you'll enjoy some angst after I procrastinated for 3 months.

Keqing stood with her hands behind her back, watching yet another show of fireworks during Lantern Rite. She was outside of the new Jade Chamber, her magenta eyes shining with excitement and the reflections of the fireworks that were going off. During last year's Lantern Rite she had stood alongside the traveler and Paimon and she had hoped to be by your side for another new year, however, last year was quite a mess. She let out a sigh as she continued to quietly watch the fireworks. She felt alone in this moment without you by her side. Her best friend.
For as long as Keqing could remember, she's always spent Lantern Rite with you no matter what happened. Even after she became Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing, she still made it her priority to spend the new year with you. However, last year was the last Lantern Rite she would ever spend with you. She'd never spend one with you ever again. Not until the next life.
She would never forget the events that happened last year. They would forever be ingrained in her mind and the memory would haunt her for the rest of her life.

Everything was fine. You were fine. You felt fine. Everything was perfectly normal. Or so you thought. Maybe it was just life treating you badly, although ever since you were young you'd been diagnosed with an unknown sickness that greatly affected your life and how you lived. None of the doctors were ever able to explain the causes of this sickness nor what it was exactly doing to you. All they could ever tell you was that someday, this illness would kill you. When? They didn't know. How? Again, they didn't know.
And so all your life, you've dealt with this illness that just wouldn't go away no matter what medication you took and eventually, you learned to deal with it and accept your fate. The fate that said you could die on any given day, at any given time without warning. So far, you were still alive, the sickness still killing you slowly from the inside out.
Lantern Rite had come again for the new year and your best friend since childhood, Keqing, had invited you to spend the night with her. It's always been like that ever since you were children. Even when she became Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing, she still made an effort to spend every Lantern Rite with you, her best friend. Earlier this year, the Tianquan, Ningguang, had decided to rebuild a new Jade Chamber and so, with her new floating palace built, Keqing invited you to join her atop the new palace overlooking the entire harbour. Of course you had to accept! It was such a great honour to be invited to the Jade Chamber and the view above the clouds would be perfect and you'd be spending it with your favourite person in the entire world.
