NARRATOR'S POV:
February settled over Hogwarts like a cautious promise. The snow still clung to the edges of the grounds, the air sharp and cold, inside the castle, life continue to move along. Classes carried on as usual. Corridors filled with familiar chatter.
George's life began to settle back into something familiar.
The heaviness he had been carrying for weeks slowly loosened its grip. The guilt that once sat tight in his chest, tangled with Darla, with things unsaid and choices made too late, faded into something softer. Relief. Closure. Breathing room. He no longer looked weighed down by thoughts he refused to share. His smiles came easier now, unguarded and real, and the sharp edge of tension that had followed him everywhere finally dulled.
Fred noticed. He had always known when his twin wasn't himself, and seeing him laugh again, properly laugh, felt like getting a piece of himself back. The pranks returned, louder and more elaborate than before, and George slipped into their shared rhythm as if he'd never left it. Fred welcomed it with open relief, grateful to have his brother whole again.
Anna noticed too. She saw it in the way George carried himself, lighter and freer, in the way his eyes no longer held that distant storm. Watching him joke with Fred, seeing that familiar grin flash across his face again, filled her with a quiet, steady happiness. She hadn't realized how much she'd been worrying until she felt the weight lift.
But between Anna and George, something delicate remained unspoken.
They talked. They laughed. They walked side by side between classes as they always had. Yet there was a careful silence wrapped around them. George never mentioned her drunken confession that night, and he never confessed what he himself felt. Not yet.
Perhaps they were both waiting, waiting for him to fully step out of Darla's shadow, waiting for the right moment, or simply afraid of what would change once the silence finally broke.
The Great Hall buzzed softly with morning conversation as Anna sat at the Gryffindor table, picking at her breakfast. Sunlight streamed through the enchanted ceiling, pale and wintry, when a calm, elderly voice drifted toward her.
"Ms Mcxandra".
She turned, to find Professor Dumbledore standing behind her, eyes twinkling behind half-moon spectacles.
"Good morning, Professor", she said quickly, standing.
"Good morning", he replied warmly. "I trust you're well? I have some news for you".
Curiosity sparked as he gently placed a hand at her shoulder, guiding her a few steps away from the table.
"Professor?", she asked, uncertain but attentive.
"I've spoken with Madam Pomfrey", he said. "Regarding your interest in assisting her in the hospital wing. She tells me she would greatly appreciate your help".
Anna's face lit up, her smile immediate and bright.
"And", Dumbledore continued, clearly amused by her reaction, "I was wondering if you might also assist Professor Snape from time to time-brewing potions for the infirmary".
"Yes, Professor", Anna replied without hesitation. "Of course. Thank you".
Dumbledore nodded approvingly before gliding away, leaving her standing there, heart warm and light.
She turned back, realising that her friends had gone quiet, their eyes on her.
She walked back and sat beside George, cheeks warm.
"Well?", Fred asked, grinning. "What was that all about?".
