(TW: Disassociation)
The autumn breeze tousled Lizzy's hair and left her cheeks pink. The smell and warmth of summer only a ghost in the wind. She always loved how it gave life to the long grass on the sides of the roads, still yellowing from the August sun. But sitting atop this cliff that looked over her town in Sokovia, she found in this quiet nature that she favored the way the leaves of the trees danced in the cool autumn breeze. She couldn't remember ever feeling so at ease.
Lizzy stared at the sky as the sunset blossomed upon the clouds as if a million blooms of scarlet ignited. She knew she should leave but she made no motion to move, if she could she would stretch this moment over a lifetime just so she could memorize every detail.
"I knew I'd find you here. You know you can't stay here forever," Pietro said, she could hear the smile in his voice.
"I know, but I can't leave while the sky looks like that," she said motioning to the ever-changing array of colors that painted the once blue sky. She sat back, resting on her hands as Pietro sat beside her, his legs hanging off the side of the cliff.
"I guess it is quite beautiful," He paused his voice soft as he too admired the blossoming sky, "like something you'd see in a dream," his smile fell from his face as he spoke, "a dream.." his voice was barely audible.
Pietro's words struck Lizzy, sending a shiver down her spine. She looked at him, her eyes studying him before turning back to look at the sky that was now a dark scarlet. The world grew unnaturally still.
This isn't real.
She got to her feet quickly, standing rigid with terror, as the world seemed to close around them "Pietro, what's happening?" She could not ignore the overwhelming dread that grew within her.
"I think you're dreaming Lizzy," he spoke with no emotion.
"Pietro, you're scaring me."
"I died..."
"What?"
She stared at his back awaiting an answer, but he made no movement, she placed her hand on his shoulder and he whipped around suddenly grabbing her shoulders, his clothes now torn and dirty, covered in blood, and his face and eyes grey.
"I died because of you!" he screamed, his voice staggering in its venom.
Lizzy let out a strangled cry as he let her fall to the ground, shielding her eyes as if to protect her from the terror of seeing her brother so lifeless and so angry. It was then that she remembered Pietro dying for her. Her body shook uncontrollably as the memory resurfaced and replayed. Pietro screamed her name, every time grounded out, becoming more hoarse than before.
"Lizzy?" her brother's voice had silenced and now her name was spoken softly. "Lizzy?"
She was shaking, too afraid to move, and drowning in guilt.
"Lizzy, hey look at me. Wake up,"
Lizzy felt hands on her shoulders and she opened her eyes, she was relieved to see that it was her sister.
"Wanda?" Lizzy spoke her voice trembling in fear.
"I think you had a nightmare," Wanda spoke softly as if not to startle Lizzy, who glanced around the room.
"Where are we?"
"The Avengers facility," Wanda examined the room, holding Lizzy's hands now, rubbing her thumb in circles, "I know, it doesn't feel right being here does it?"
Lizzy remembered now, it had been one month since Sokovia, she winced wishing her morning grogginess had kept her memories away for good.
The room Tony had given to Lizzy was large, larger than the living space in the apartments she lived in as a child. She did not know what to do with the space given to her, she had always dreamed of having a big room but now that she had it she found that it made her feel lonely. The space around her that she could not occupy mocked her, you are alone, it said, you are always alone.
The morning sun seeped through the windows filling the space, it was warm, the soft golden glow filled the room only leaving her side of the bed in the shadows.
Her body was sore, the bruises and cuts from the battle still fading. Lizzy's arms were crossed tightly her chest, a failed attempt to stop the pain in her chest that she woke up with everymorning.
"I had another dream about Pietro." Lizzy spoke distantly. Wanda made no move to look at her instead she stared out the bright windows, the circles she traced with her thumb quickened, "We were in Sokovia, watching the sunset," Lizzy breathed in deeply feeling unable to fill her lungs completely, "It was nice at first, and it felt so real," Wanda's grip tightened and her thumb quickened, her eyes were haunted by some inner anxiety. "but then it went silent and everything grew unnaturally still," Wanda's nails dug into Lizzy's skin.
Her face paled as the world seemed to become hollow and her heart stopped, her chest hurting straight through to her back.
"Not again," Lizzy said barely above a whisper.
"Why is it that we are the ones who suffer?" Wanda uttered with bitter resentment, "Why are we the ones who must sacrifice what we love?" the veins in her neck became pronounced in livid ridges. "They took everything from me. Everything from us."
Lizzy's eyes burgeoned with tears as Wanda seemed to only grow more angry.
"They took our parents, our home, our brother," Wanda swallowed dryly, "then when all we had was each other they separated us, and as if they hadn't taken enough they made me sacrifice the one I loved,"
Lizzy's chest grew to be so tight it became hard to breathe.
"I will not let them take anymore from me." Wanda's eyes glowed a bright red, and she moved to her feet, pulling Lizzy out of bed, "We don't have to sacrifice anymore for them," The sun seemed to disappear as the room was now pitch black, only illuminated by the red glow that surrounded Wanda. "You and I, we are more powerful then they can ever be," She smiled and her eyes lit up with a crazed happiness.
Lizzy stepped back from Wanda, and her smile fell.
"You are afraid." She paused tilting her head, "You have no idea what we're capable of. Only when you open your mind to your power will you see what you can do. We have only just scratched the surface of what we are born to do." She stepped towards Lizzy, her smile soft and hopeful. Wanda placed her palm on Lizzy's forehead, "Open your eyes and see that we are power."
That was when Lizzy woke up.
(Hii, so this chapter is different from the others but I kind of just wanted to experiment with it since its something new! I hope you guys like it, the others chapters will be normal lol. I am looking forward to Lizzy's character in the future of this story I think the way the MCU is going will allow me to take Lizzy to crazy places and allow me to be experimental with what she can do! Also in case anyone is confused this takes place after the snap during that five year period when everyone is gone, so yeah Lizzy is dreaming sort of. Idk I thought it'd be cool if I tried something different for her anyway hope you all enjoyed!)
