July 12th: Nightmare

The world was a blur. Fast, shallow breathing, dark visions, panic. It felt as though the world was turning on an axis no human mind could feasibly adjust to. Just as you felt you were going to burst, you shot up in bed.

You took in short, shallow breaths, sweating falling in beads down your forehead. Your mind refused to grasp the concept of reality, everything was confusing, scary, overwhelming, almost a gross cocktail of every unpleasant emotion.

It was incidents like this when you wished you and Dom didn't have separate bedrooms. Your hands wouldn't stop shaking, neither could any part of your body. You couldn't remember the nightmare, but it had sent you into this state, a total panic.

Your heart beat out of your chest, ramming against your ribcage. Gathering blankets around you, you tried to convince yourself you didn't need to go to Dom. You didn't want to worry him or make him upset, if you could avoid it.

Waiting a little longer, your hands were still shaking, your mind was still a blur, your body was still shaky. Wrapping the thickest blanket around you, you got up. Opening the bedroom door, you walked down the hallway to Dom's bedroom.

As you opened the door, you saw him, sat up in bed, writing in his notepad. He used that notepad for when he was writing the first drafts for songs. "Hey love," Dom said, looking up. Immediately, he saw how upset you were.

"Woah, love, what happened?" Dom asked, putting the notepad and pencil down. "Nightmare," Was all you said, your voice shaking as Dom moved down. "C'mere, you can cuddle with me," Dom said, patting down the bed.

You walked over and as you began to sit down, Dom gave you a tight hug, pulling you in quickly. Wrapping your own blankets around you, he held the sheets tightly around you, moving your hair out of your face to give you a quick forehead kiss.

"Fuck me love, you're shaking like a leaf," He said, keeping you into the tight hug as he rubbed your arms down softly. Dom held your body, trying to get you to relax. "My love, can you do some breathing exercises with me?" He asked, lifting you by your chin to look at him.

You nodded as he wrapped his hand around yours. "Deep breath darling, deep breath," He said, rubbing his hand against your knuckle, moving in a soothing circle motion. He quickly followed the breathing technique you used.

The 4-7-8 technique. He breathed in with you for 4 seconds, held your breathing for 7 seconds, and breathed out with you for 8 seconds. Slowly, you felt your self awareness coming back. You felt more aware of the world, more aware of your surroundings, trying to ground yourself.

Keeping going with the breathing, he ran his fingers along your arm, trying to ground you. He did that every so often, to ground you, it reminded you he was there. He lay down on the bed with you as you got more relaxed, laying with you, reaching over to turn off the light.

Once the light was off, Dom held you a little tighter. "It's alright love, I've got you, I really do," He assured, leaving a kiss on your forehead. "Pretty girl," Dom cooed, pressing his finger against your nose.

"You can't even see me Dom," You said, knowing he didn't have the best night vision. "Does it matter? I know what your face looks like, and it's gorgeous," He said. Rolling your eyes, your cheeks flushed slightly.

He kissed your lips softly as he reached over for his phone, softly playing some soft music. You had a playlist for when you had trouble sleeping, and he didn't have to be told to put it on for you. Closing your eyes, you relaxed into Dom's arms.

It was just so nice to feel yourself being fully relaxed, just there, just peacefully being in his arms. Dom ran his hands through your hair, almost giving a slight scratch. Feeling yourself relax, Dom began to softly sing the music to you.

Singing under his breath, just enough for you to hear and to enjoy hearing it. The mix of everything that Dom was doing, it soon sent you into a deep sleep. Dom finished the song he was singing before noticing you'd not spoken for a while.

Looking down, he saw you asleep, your head laying down on his chest, your eyes shut, peacefully sleeping. He smiled, moving the blanket to cover you more. "Goodnight my sweetheart," He said, moving your hair out of your face so it wouldn't annoy you or irritate you.

Laying with you, he knew he needed some sleep himself. Continuing to listen to the music and practicing the same breathing technique as he felt himself getting closer and closer to falling asleep.

Dom soon also fell asleep, both of your bodies holding each other and supporting each other, keeping each other feeling safe. Sleepy intimacy was the best kind of intimacy.
