"Mmmmm, good morning handsome," I say, rolling over on my side with a smile on my face. I can still smell his cologne on the pillow. I open my eyes, but Hunter isn't in bed anymore.
I flip through my phone for a couple minutes before I eventually roll out of bed and into the bathroom. My hair is wild this morning and there are still traces of mascara under my eyes. I wash my face, brush my teeth and run a brush through my unruly hair. Hunter must've had some work he needed to get done early. I throw on some clothes and when I stroll out to the kitchen, I find it vacant. Thinking maybe he left, I check the front window, but his truck is still in the driveway. Maybe he is downstairs. If he hears me moving around, he'll come upstairs so I'll just make myself a bowl of cereal until then.
By the time I finish my breakfast, Hunter still hasn't surfaced. I walk through each room in the house, but he is nowhere to be found. Hmm, this strange. Where is he? I put on my shoes and walk out back, expecting to find him in the pool or cutting the grass. He's not in the hot tub, the pool or anywhere in the yard. I walk around the side yard, cutting through to the front. Screaming can be heard from the whore's house next door, making me feel sorry for whatever poor sap ended up in her bed last night. The thought alone makes me nauseous. When I make it to the front yard, there is still no trace of him. I'm worried so I go inside to grab my phone, checking every room in the house once more and yelling his name. Still no answer. I glance at my phone, yelling out a few choice words when I discover that the battery is dead. Great. I guess I didn't plug the charger in all the way. I plug it back in and make sure it is actually charging before I resume my search.
While I'm waiting for my battery to charge, I jump in the shower and try to get this day started. My mind is all over the place wondering where Hunter could be. Maybe one of the guys picked him up and they are out doing wedding stuff. He would have woken me up though and told me he was leaving or left me a note. It's not like him to just disappear. When I get out of the shower, I quickly dry my hair and pull it back into a ponytail. I get dressed and check my phone once more.
No missed calls or texts from him.
This is really weird. Something just doesn't feel right. I can't put my finger on it, but it's making my gut churn. I call his phone, but it just rings until it reaches his voicemail. I send him a text and wait for a response, but I never get one. I call him again, but it goes to voicemail once more.
Now I am really worried. He always answers when I call. I dial Helen and she tells me she hasn't seen or talked to him. She said she has been with Patrick all morning and he hasn't received any calls or texts either. I call Bryson first, then Justin and finally Kevin. They all have the same response...haven't heard from him. My text to him hasn't been read. I call him once more, but still no answer. I reach out to my parents just in case. They also haven't heard from him but are now as concerned about his disappearance as I am. This is completely unlike him. I go into the bathroom and apply some makeup. If I haven't heard from him by the time I get done, I am going looking for him.
My makeup is done and the only texts I have received are from the guys and Helen wondering if I have heard from Hunter yet. I text them back and tell them I haven't. I sit down at the kitchen table and rack my brain as to where he could be. He couldn't have been out running errands because his truck is still here. He doesn't take walks so I don't see that as a possibility. I decide to check the backyard one more time in case he was crouched down and I possibly didn't see him the first time. I walk around the back yard, but he is nowhere to be found. I make my way through the side yard when I hear the one thing that makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
"Hunter, yes! Fuck me!"
The whore.
I am at her door in a matter of seconds. This cannot possibly be happening. It better be my mind playing tricks on me or she is in there with another man named Hunter. I wouldn't put that past her, finding another man with the same name since my fiancée wants nothing to do with her. I bang on the door and wait, my stomach twisting and churning.
