Previously in UIFY:

"You. You’re ruining me, April Stuart. My brother is already writing our death certificates, your Uncle is, intentionally, starting a war between our kind- and all the while, you’ve been my main f*cking priority!"

She couldn’t- no, wouldn’t- allow such a pitiful reason like guy troubles trip her up after everything she’d done to stay standing.

Grayson could only make up a quick excuse before picking up speed, to which Elijah would join him as they charged through the forest, leading the wolves behind them as far away from April as they could before they’d attack them- and, hopefully, bring them to a surrender

 --Chapter 35--

3…2…1…

Only hoping that Elijah had done the same, Grayson barrelled to the side before crashing to the ground as hellhounds sent by the devil bounded past them, too quickly to realise their own mistake. Both he and Elijah stood from the ground on all-fours, ranking themselves in front of the wolves, craning their necks to either one of them- snarling and sending glares their way.

The squadron leader- or, at least whom Grayson assumed was- positioned his bulky anatomy at the head of the fleet, holding himself tall and regal. It was almost as if he forgot who Grayson and Elijah were- and how their status in the pack out-balanced his easily; even if in that moment in time, their statuses were probably going to be severed by the uproar they were causing. But, that hardly mattered as of right now.

Admittedly, Grayson didn’t recognise many of the wolves. Their scents registered, although, when your pack is one amongst few the largest in the country, the members’ scents tended to blend together rather easily. That is, unless you were to have an extremely distinct scent. Like a certain someone Grayson could name in a heartbeat.

But, before he could even begin to comprehend his mate’s scent, voices of the wolves standing opposite became more apparent than before. Their attempts at getting through to him had failed up until now, and that was as much of a cue Grayson figured he’d be getting: it was time to do something- say the right things and twist their legs.

Grayson, you’ve defied the Alpha. You realise this, do you not? Yet, you still choose to side with the enemy. Why is that?’ The leader of the opposing questioned, baring his teeth.

Grayson may or may not have allowed his pride get to him slightly. He’d worked hard for the title of Beta yet, here they were, not only threatening to kill him, his best friend, and his mate, but also not even bothering to address him with that title. When, in reality, Grayson wasn’t even all that happy with being Beta- not when his brother, a tyrant, had self-adjudicated himself Alpha.

Perhaps, before the serious topic at hand came into conversation, then Grayson could have a little fun with the idiots before him. Mentally, he flicked the metaphorical switch that shifted him into the arrogant smartass he knew Elijah just loved. Not.

As much as you, foolishly, believe your orders are the best there has to be offered, my position in the pack remains the same. You will address both myself, and Elijah, as your superiors. After all, is that not how you refer to the Alpha?

You dare insult our Alpha? He is a brave man- and without him, our pack would no longer be standing. Without him, after the countless rogue attacks, then many lives would’ve been lost. Alpha Cohan is a great leader; perhaps greater than our previous leaders that disappeared- no, abandoned their pack, their family.’
