Previously in UIFY:

“Ash, the air around him was just...bad. He kind of freaked me out.” April whispered.

“Hello, niece.” The man with the strip of belt wrapped tightly around his fist which clenched and unclenched in rage snarled distastefully.

“Your brother. He and I are alike in many ways.”

  --Chapter 26—

“So,” Grayson began, completely driving all attention from the little scene she’d witnessed only few seconds earlier. “Before we head to my-“

“Super Secret Cabin in the Woods where you’ll be my Sensei and train me to control my powers in safety?” April blurted, faking enthusiasm and bounced in her seat with faux zeal and joy. Grayson only looked over again and shook his head lightly with a smile.

“Sure. What you just said. OK, so before we go...there, I say we do some last minute Christmas shopping seeing as you definitely need new clothes and I’m pretty sure the both of us need that sense of normality in our lives.”

Whatever April thought Grayson was going to say; she was proven to be completely wrong with what he did in fact say. Legitimately speaking, April had to fight down hard the urge to throw her arms around the guy driving the car- which would’ve probably ended terribly if she had.

“Are you kidding me?” She was pretty sure her mouth was hanging wide open, and only if her tongue was hanging out would April literally look like a dog. After last night’s tumble before she found out part of the truth from Grayson, she already stank like one.

Speaking of, Grayson chuckled and shook his head.

“I haven’t celebrated a holiday since my parents’ death because of the majority of pack work which was all loaded onto me. With you by my side, you’re my excuse for someone to both celebrate with and shop for.”

“I’m your excuse?” April faked offence, gasping in shock and mock hurt.

Grayson laughed. “Do you want to celebrate Christmas with me or not?”

“Can you guarantee happiness? I want the whole shenanigans.”

“I can’t guarantee happiness, or a turkey for that matter. But I’m pretty sure the Super Secret Cabin in the Woods has a microwave, so maybe I’ll settle for a microwavable pizza- only if you behave though.”

April giggled, no longer feeling the burden of her anger or her traumatic dream put another tonne of weight on her shoulders like she had when she first woke up in the morning.

“So where is this cabin?” She asked, shifting in her seat and began to turn the dial for what she assumed was the radio, although she couldn’t make out much from the large fist-shaped dint in it. Not that she didn’t enjoy the comfortable silence that she and Grayson had slowly floated into, because April actually liked it; yet she also liked when they spoke. April simply couldn’t think of a position the two could be put in which would make them feel uncomfortable.

How about last night? When you touched his bare skin several times?’ The AWOL wolf sniggered.

Oh how I’ve missed your input.

Thank you for the consideration.

It’s called sarcasm, dummy.

I’m a wolf, April. I don’t know the meaning of it.
