Previously in UIFY:

All of the hits, kicks, threats and insults thrown to him by his own brother had been endured for the purpose of revenge; remaining loyal to Cohan so that one day, Grayson would strike him down when he least expected it.

***

Yet, here Grayson was: losing his brother’s trust- all of his hard work going down the drain. All for the greater good of his mate, April.

***

He was going to make the sociopath regret what she did to April. Which, wasn’t exactly theoretically possible, but Grayson would do it. Even if it meant spilling a few droplets of blood.

***

“Jesus, April. Where’d all your self-esteem go? I-Is it what Grayson said? Because, I really don’t think you should listen to-“

“This has nothing to do with him!” April shouted abruptly, interrupting Maxwell from the assumption he was about to make.

--Chapter 36--

April hadn’t given up exactly- nor had she purposely collapsed on the ground, submitting to the aches and pains or anything.

She’d just gotten herself into a…precarious predicament. That’s all. She’d blamed it on her current state, and how it was limiting her intelligence as other thoughts and emotions clouded her mind. For example, when intense pangs of pain spread throughout her body like a viral disease, what was she more likely to focus on; that- which nearly affected her entire body- or how flimsy her arms were compared to an extremely heavy weight being held above her?

In April’s case, the weight her arms tried to keep situated above her was the least of her worries. So, that could’ve been the reason that April was now squirming helplessly beneath this said weight as it partially crushed her ribs and lungs, labouring her breathing; all the while cursing herself for being so stupid.

She coughed and spluttered a little. April knew it would be a fruitless plea to yell for Maxwell’s aid, knowing that through the network of tunnels, it’d be unlikely that he’d even hear her. So, with that in mind, April’s pride was the only strength she had to attempt ridding the goddamn weight from squishing her. Aloud, her groans and exasperated sighs were only a small resemblance of the desperation she had.

“At any point, you could just lend me a hand, you know? I’ve been stuck in this same position for 20 minutes now- and you’ve just been laughing at me, haven’t you? Admit it!” April struggled and wriggled her legs helplessly.

Gods, she thought, this is so much worse than my motorbike.

I’m not admitting anything until you admit defeat. Surrender to me, and then I’ll help you.

April laughed bitterly in pure annoyance. “You, my lovely, is an asshole. I hope you know this. And also, if I die beneath this weight, I hope you realise that you will die with me. So, I suggest you help-“

Can you smell that?’ Her wolf interrupted April’s threat- which, was obviously going to be taken so seriously, and certainly not laughed sadistically at.

She took a moment, sniffing the air for anything other than the smell of disgusting sweat and desperation. Nada.

“No. You’re probably just imagining it. Now, back to my predicament-“
