Grayson’s POV.
“...Oh...“ What the hell was he supposed to say? She’d already found out because he made a freaking rookie mistake. You would’ve thought after being an undercover werewolf scumbag, who lied to his friends on a daily basis, he would’ve been able to come up with a better response than ‘Um’.
Sarcasm would’ve been a great approach, and instead of stuttering like a nervous teenager in front of their crush, he would’ve said something like, ‘No, I’m Batman’. The Batman technique probably wasn’t the best example seeing as Grayson was incapable of bringing up Batman without bursting into hysterics.
Spiderman was so much better.
April’s face, by this time, had gone strangely pale and she had a dazed look in her eyes. Grayson waved his hand before her face, even clicking a few times before she snapped back into reality.
“You- you did- how are...? Oh my gods...” She muttered incoherently, staring confusedly at the ground until Grayson spoke up, in which she raised her gaze from the ground to hesitantly meet his own.
“Brianna knows I’m alive, and so does your boyfriend. Don’t worry yourself.” Perhaps that came out a little harsher than expected, but much to his dismay, April didn’t even deny his accusation.
Probably because it’s true, he reminded himself, his wolf growled at him for being so pessimistic.
“When did you tell them?” She whispered, her eyes no longer connected with Grayson’s, but focused on her hands which were being constantly tangling and untangling each other. April was doing a fine job at avoiding his face entirely.
Grayson’s wolf growled once more.
“The day you left. Elijah told me they both needed some...support.”
“Did it work?” She asked hopefully, a glint of regret simmering and lacing with the colours in her eyes, drawing him in. He snapped himself out of that attitude when she began to speak again, “Are they doing OK? I didn’t want to leave them, not after what you did- which by the way, why the hell did you do that!?”
“Instinctive acts shouldn’t be blamed on the human.” He shrugged, lying also. The last thing he wanted to do was introduce April to the whole ‘Elusive Wolf’ situation, let alone tell her that she was one.
Her eyes widened slightly as he said that fib, either being able to detect the lie, or being able to relate. He was about to change the topic at hand, by suggesting they head back or something but April began again before he had the opportunity.
“Back to my original question...”
Grayson sighed, “I’ll tell you in the car. As for now, let’s hope that Daniel has gone or...calmed down at least.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you. Just because I know who you are doesn’t mean I’m going to trust you!” She hissed, jumping away and backing up against a tree as he made an impulsive move to take her hand in his.
“Guess not,” He mumbled lowly, low enough to be unheard by April who was glaring daggers at him. “Look, April. You have questions, and only I have the answers. But, unless you want to go crawling back to your boyfriend and risk hurting him by leaving them again, then I suggest you come with me.” He tried not to project his persuasive voice that he could use to manipulate pack members to do their duty. He didn’t want to force April too much.
But apparently what he had said struck a sensitive spot on April. Her glare softened and she slowly nodded hair had, locks of her long hair falling into her face. It took a lot of restraint to not push them back behind her ear like a cliché movie would.
