April didn’t even know if she would be able to concentrate enough to form coherent sentences, let alone tell Grayson her entire story.

“Things between us are already changing, Cherub, but not for the reasons you’d expect. But either way, we need to learn control. Or else, these things will tear us apart.”

“I k-killed them all- or, at least I thought I had."

"I saw them! All of them! They’re alive! And they’re like me! They’re monsters!”

 --Chapter 31--

April’s POV.

Maxwell clapped his hands, somewhat impressed by what he seemed to think was some kind of play.

“Well, that was just so…” He faked a moved expression, wiping away a non-existent tear from his eye. “Emotional. But, may I suggest perhaps a make-out session at the end. You know, a steamy one? That might add to the…power of the scene. You know what, Grayson, how ‘bout April and I demonstrate so that you can see what I mean?”

April couldn’t help but ponder over how alike Maxwell seemed to the girl, Lorie, from the KISS CAM stall at the mall; both being very persistent yet also having terrible timing to produce an inappropriate remark.

And right then, April didn’t know whether she wanted to curl up into a ball and fly to Canada out of embarrassment or punch Maxwell in the face for being such an imbecile- managing to not only barge in or her and Grayson, but also ruining their tender moment.

She was leaning towards doing both.

She probably would’ve if Grayson hadn’t already begun talking.

“How long have you been standing there, Maxwell?” He cleared his throat, regaining the manliness he thought he’d lost during their conversation it seemed. Which, to April of course, was a complete lie. She figured whenever talking with others, besides herself, Grayson would transform into his business-like facade.

It made April feel like she was that much of a liability that Grayson had to hide his true, unguarded-self when he was around others, her included. It was like he didn’t want other people to see him for who he is behind the arrogant, Alpha-like behaviour. Everyone, except April. But in another way, as well as her making her feel like a liability, she was somewhat honoured. April realised that this was part of the reason Grayson was still in a rut of his own, and why he’d spent many years of his teenage years wallowing in his own anger and distress. He just never told anyone of what thoughts were running through his head.

“Long enough to hear the two of you confess your unconditional love to each other. Which by the way, wow. I mean, I expected more than just words. Haven’t you heard of the expression, Gray? You know, the ‘actions do more than words’ thing? Well, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. And what I envisioned was something a little more…gripping. Perhaps you could’ve gone all dominative Alpha wolf on her and thrown-“

I think I’m gonna vomit.

You know you love it. Don’t lie.

“You’re back!?” April’s voice surprised even herself, as well as the two others in the room.

Maxwell, being the overly self-confident individual, assumed April’s outburst was directed towards him rather than the return of her enemy- who she missed the presence of more than she liked to admit.
