Previously in UIFY:

“April, I found you just lying in the shower- the water was running but you weren’t...um...you were fully clothed- as you are now. You were screaming before I found you, almost talking to yourself, sort of.”

“That makes no sense! I was in the shower! Then I started seeing things in the mirror and-“

***

April,” Grayson began, his eyes narrowed- but not at her. He looked like he was on the edge of breaking down and having some kind of fury-unleashing episode. “We need to talk.”

***

“April, wait,” Jason grabbed her arm, stopping her from leaving so suddenly. His voice was deadly serious. “If he tries anything-“

“Like what, Jas? Grayson would never intentionally hurt me.” She said, although what made her so sure...she didn’t know. April hadn’t even meant to say anything, yet something told her to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Would you look at this? I don’t know about you, Cherub, but I’m beginning to get déjà vu right now.” Grayson grinned. It had only been ten minutes, maybe, but that was enough time for April to notice how laidback, airy and light he’d been acting all of a sudden. It may have scared her a little.

“Huh? Yeah...I guess.” She mumbled offhandedly, not really paying attention to whatever garbage was coming from his mouth. April had been patiently waiting for him to spill some answers and she was getting tired of it.

Too lost in her own thoughts, April didn’t notice the large, thick root in front of her. Instead of walking over it, her luck was just impeccable as she tripped, flinging herself forward onto the ground. She swore under her breath, which soon turned into a gasp as she felt the ground moving beneath her- well, either that or she was moving.

April found herself rolling in the leaves beneath her, and she had to shut her eyes to keep the dirt from blinding her, but if her luck couldn’t get any worse; she didn’t see the huge drop that she was heading to.

When Grayson finally stopped rambling on and on to himself, he only then realised April’s predicament and scrambled down the leaf blanketed hill after her.

Meanwhile, April wished she could say she had managed to save herself from falling from her own stupidity- alas, she couldn’t. She knew she was pretty much doomed as soon as her legs dropped, the rest of her body tumbling after it. Her arms flailed desperately for some support to grab onto, and her legs dug into the rock to try and find some foothold to rest in.

A stray root from the right of her vision struck out to her and somehow, she managed to push herself from the wall- still falling- and grapple onto the root, praying to the gods that it would hold her weight. Her body was brought to a holt and her eyes widened when she saw the ground above the root move with uncertainty. It strained the little muscles she had in her arms to keep herself up, and she knew there was no hope that she’d manage to somehow pull herself up- because even then, she had nowhere to go. She was pretty far down.

Above her, she saw Grayson scramble to the edge.

“Impeccable timing, Evans!” She growled from below, frustration dawning as she looked around for some ledge or something to jump down to, but found none; just 30ft drop.

“OK, there is some weird déjà vu sh*t going on here.” He helpfully recalled, probably recalling the last time April had been dangling from a ledge somewhere. She’d said she didn’t need his help the last time, but now, she wasn’t so sure.
