Alike a volcano, her emotions were just simmering below the surface, awaiting the inevitable trigger to erupt. And in that moment, April was surprisingly dormant.

“Good job, Cherub. I didn’t realise you could be so...sinisterly deceptive. I applaud.”

“Yeah, well, let’s just say it wasn’t the first time.”

Jason’s eyes- which were glued to Grayson’s- then flashed to April’s, and widened in something similar to disgust.

 “It’s true, then. You’re his-“

 --Chapter 23--

Grayson's POV.

At some point in every werewolf’s life, transition day will come. Alike puberty, it’s different for every wolf, and for Grayson; it came when he least expected it to.

 --Flashback--

“Grayson, what do you want to do tomorrow when I’m off work, assuming you’ll be with us that is?” Mrs Smith questioned, dishing out servings of pasta for herself, Brianna, Jason and him.

Speaking of the siblings, they were both busy doing Calculus homework which was due in 2 days earlier. Apparently procrastination was a trait inherited by both kids. At least Grayson, however, being the dedicated student he was did the homework the day it was due at the breakfast table whilst scoffing down as many lucky charms as he could in one spoonful before school started. Once or twice, he may have inhaled too many and choked a little, but he always managed to get the work done in time.

“I’m really sorry about this, but if at any point I come across as a nuisance then please-“

“Oh, Grayson! I didn’t mean it like that! I have no trouble with you being here at all, in fact, I’m really glad you’re here.” She smiled the kind of motherly smile that made his heart clench with broken and forgotten memories.

“Really? Why?” He bit his lip, expecting her to change into a she-devil screaming that he’d ruined her life and is the reason she loses sleep at night or something just as chaotic. But in his defence, it wouldn’t have been the first time that happened.

“Of course. After all, you’re a brilliant friend to both of my children, and especially with everything going on with their father; you’re a real good guy to talk to. You make my children happier.”

Grayson grinned, which Mrs Smith often told him was the reason he had so many girls swooning over him at school. The actual statistic of girls who felt that way around him never failed to make him blush like a tomato.

 “Thanks, Mrs S.”

“That’s what I like to hear, now go call Brianna and Jason- I’m sure they’re probably sick of all those numbers by now!” She laughed, shooing Grayson along out of the kitchen with a plaid cleaning rag.

He chuckled as he stumbled into the lounge area after being whacked lightly over the head with Mrs Smith’s tea towel a couple of times. Grayson spotted Jason lying upside down on the sofa with his math books contents spewed across the carpet.

“I can’t do this!” Jason groaned, tossing out more papers and assignments from his book. Brianna was nowhere in sight, which was strange to say since she and Jas were practically inseparable these days. But then again, the idea that Brianna had just gone to the bathroom didn’t seem so bizarre- which, of course, isn’t an activity both siblings have to accompany each other doing.
