“Why didn’t you tell us that April’s your mate?” Jason questioned, steadily calm as he internally screamed.

“You don’t deal with your problems, Evans! You run like a freaking coward!"

--Chapter 24--

April's POV.

She froze on the spot, resisting the urge to face-palm right in the middle of the hallway.

‘Way to be subtle, April. Just admit it.

 Admit what?

Her hand tingled annoyingly, acting like a constant reminder of what she had just done. To any normal person; the miniscule accidental mistake should be easily forgotten. And that was what April was willing to do- but her body wouldn’t let her. Neither would her godforsaken wolf. The stupid tingle as a reminiscence of his bare skin on hers drove her crazy.

April hated how completely hormonal she sounded. It was like the trauma at the beginning of high school all over again.

A sharp squeal exited her throat when a pair of hands attached themselves to her waist, and she felt something press against her earlobe.

“What you did was completely unacceptable. Yet I’m totally fine if you want to do it again.” Grayson breathed heavily, and April didn’t have to see to know that he was grinning.

“Are you out of your mind? You can’t just immerge from the shadows and scare me! I honestly thought I was going to hurt you- again!” Her silent tantrum only made him chuckle loudly, immediately causing April to shush him. The others probably would’ve been woken up at least five times over the course of the night with Grayson and her squabbling the whole time.

“You wouldn’t do that. And let’s face it; you’re not strong enough to-“

His chatter was cut short when April grabbed his forearm and turned her back on him before flipping his entire body over her shoulder. Maybe it was the indirect challenge that she’d accepted which made her do it. But, April didn’t actually think she’d be able to do it in the first place.

A loud thud on the carpet made her grimace at the volume, and she briefly wondered whether she'd gone too far or had actually hurt him. The thought created a painful stirring sensation in April's chest. She loathed the feeling.

She straddled his waist and chuckled when his eyes went wide.

“What were you saying, Grayson? Something about me not being able to-“

Grayson growled from beneath her, grabbed her thighs and flipped the two of them over. For a second, April was majorly terrified that he was actually angry at her, and was going to do something horrific. But the thought disappeared as she saw just how happy Grayson actually looked for once:

His bright blue eyes shone and crinkled at the sides as he laughed from above her. His smile- legitimate smile, not a grin or smirk- was featured with two large dimples at either side.

April couldn’t remember anything to be more adorable than him in that moment.

“Y-Your f-face!” He breathed, barely controlling the continuous laughter.
