If you thought the art museum trip had gone well, you obviously were under the impression that my luck was beginning to change.
The Republic Art Museum is actually a very nice place. I've been there countless times on school fieldtrips and know it pretty well. I'm sure the trip would have been just as fine as my previous ones had Anakin, Palo, and Padme not been there.
Anakin and I walked up the wide steps to the museum at approximately one forty-five. I had forced Anakin to leave early so I at least had a chance to figure out what I was going to do about this date that had become a three person date, which had then become a four person date.
All that I knew was Palo couldn't know about Anakin and Anakin couldn't know about Palo, but Padme couldn't know that Anakin didn't know about Palo and that Palo didn't know about Anakin, so Anakin could never know that Padme knew about Palo and Palo could never know that Padme knew about Anakin.
Well let me tell you, I didn't know what to do about that.
"So did Padme say anything about wanting to spend time with me?" Anakin asked as he checked his reflection in the glossy floor of the main lobby. I sucked in a breath, "She never said anything about not wanting to spend time with you," I answered, attempting to avoid having to lie. Anakin leaned close to me, "How's my breath?" he asked, huffing into my face. I stepped back, uncomfortable with my lack of personal space, "Like the inside of a tuantuan! I thought you smelled bad on the outside!"
Anakin thumped the back of my head, "Ha ha ha Grease. You should really go into comedy." I shrugged and turned around to look out for Padme and her stupid boyfriend.
Then I saw them. "Anakin!" I exclaimed quickly, trying and failing to keep my composure, "You've got a- a- a..." I trailed. Anakin frowned, "What is it, Kevin?" he asked. I tried to think of something to say but then for some reason the only thing that came out of my mouth was, "You've got a booger!"
        "A what?" he asked.
I subtly tapped my nose a few times until he understood. "What will Padme think if she saw me like this?" he asked frantically as he hurried towards the refreshers. It was just in time too, because Padme and Palo were walking straight toward me.
"Kevin!" Padme called with her usual cheery voice. I waved to them as Palo rolled his big brown eyes like the jerk he was. I ignored him as best as I could. "Palo and I were just talking about what exhibit we should look at first. What do you think we should see?" she asked.
Palo didn't give me chance. "Oh Padme, he's only a kid. I doubt he even knows the first thing about-" Now it was my turn to interrupt. "Actually, there is a new display of Van Moii's work that I have been wanting to see. Republic Weekly gave it a five star review," I replied, smiling at my small victory, "You are familiar with Van Moii, aren't you Palo?" I asked smugly.
I could have sworn that Palo was developing a raging twitch in his left eye. Every word that left my mouth got him more and more fed up with me. "I know who Van Moii is. I am an art major you know," he spat. Padme seemed to be bored out of her mind. "Palo, loves art," she said in a less than enthusiastic tone. Palo pulled her close happily, "Padme just loves my artistic taste! Isn't that right Padme?" he asked, looked to Padme for the expected answer. She only nodded and I felt a bit of empathy for her.
Then I saw Anakin strutting toward us. Luckily, Padme and Palo had their backs turned to him. I felt another wave of panic flooded my mind. "Well why don't you guys go find an exhibit? I'll be right with you after I... Go to the bathroom!"
Palo took no time to show any sign of missing me as he pulled Padme toward the grand stairway. "Great idea, Kyle! Come on Padme!" he said as he dragged her away. I rolled my eyes, "It's Kevin..." I mumbled.
Anakin popped up in front of me. "Hey Grease! Is Padme here yet? It looked like you were talking to someone." I looked away as I dried my clammy palms on my shirt. "Oh, I was just talking to... myself..." I answered slowly. Anakin raised his eyebrow, "You've got issues kid."
Was I the one obsessed with impressing a college girl with a stupid pair of glasses?
"So would you like to go look at an exhibit while we wait for Padme to get here?" I asked quickly, so not to draw attention to my lying. "Sure. I heard that this new display by some Van Mo guy is up," he suggested. I frowned as I lead him down a staircase, as far from Padme and Palo as possible. "Van Moii, and I'm sure it's not that great. What does Republic Weekly know anyways?"
