Chief glared up at the burning building with gritted teeth and reached for his radio.
"Emergency. Squad 3. Truck 81, Engine 51, if you can hear me, take cover anywhere that you can." He ordered. "We're about to open up the water cannons. Cover yourselves!"
Ana mustered up what little strength she had left and dragged her panicking body over to a metal shelf, squeezing into the bottom layer.
"Squad's headed to the east stairwell, Chief." Kelly informed.
"Water cannons go up in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!" Chief boomed, taking a deep breath. "That's it! Open up the water cannons!"
Ana could hear the liquid raining down and see it as it hit the ground. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a bit of steam rising up from her left hand and brought it closer to her body, realizing some of the water must have landed on it.
Eventually the fire had been put out, allowing Ana's panic attack to ease up a little. Now, she was exhausted and surrounded by smoke.
"Severide, Kannell, call out!" Chief instructed.
"Kannell and I are safe, Chief. We're searching for Ana now!" Kelly replied.
Said brunette merely activated her PASS alarm, not having energy to even speak yet.
"Do you have eyes on Casey?" Chief inquired.
"Negative, Chief." The Squad Lieutenant responded, grimly. "Ana! Call out!"
Wait a minute, that wasn't through the radio. She realized, yanking her left glove off.
The brunette whacked the pole of the shelf hard enough for the sound to reveberate throughout the building.
"Ana!" Kelly called once more.
She kept hitting it until the Squad Lieutenant appeared through the fog. The brunette sighed in relief and slipped her glove back on.
"Hey, Ana! You alright?" Kelly wondered, crouching down beside her.
She leaned into him in response.
"Yeah, I think we're all gonna be tried after this one." He chuckled. "Kannell, help me get her up."
*The Next Day*
Once Will finally let her go, after being forced to see him by practically everyone at 51, Ana made it to the Town Hall just in time to see Chief award Matt with the Medal of Valor.
Once that was done, she pulled out her phone and checked the time. The brunette really just wanted to see her husband at the moment.
*District 21: Bullpen*
Ignoring the confused looks from her team, Ana walked in and beelined straight for the Office. Hank, instantly concerned, stood up from his desk upon seeing her.
"Everything ok-?" He was cut off by the brunette wrapping her arms around him and burying her head into his shoulder. "Wanna tell me what's going on?"
"It's just-" She sniffled and the older man could feel her shaking slightly. "There was a really close call last shift."
Hank understood immediately and returned the tight embrace, rubbing her back in comfort.
