A/N Sorry again about the late update!

Now this chapter actually begins with a scene at the end of Fire 6x04 "A Breaking Point" cause what kind of author would I be if I didn't include Ana in this glorious moment?

Relax and enjoy the read!

*Outside of Firehouse 51*

Chief and Ana were standing on either side of Matt while they all faced a large crowd, clad in uniform. The remaining occupants of 51 were dressed the same while the non-firefighter members were dressed formally. Truck 81 was parked to the left of everyone and an American Flag was attached to the front.

"There are firefighters who play the game, work the system, bide their time to climb up the chain of command. And then there's Matthew Casey. A true, honest-to-God smoke eater. The type of firefighter who makes this department what it is. A man who truly deserves the title he is about to receive." Chief proclaimed as he and the Truck Lieutenant turned to face each other. "Matthew Casey, are you prepared to lead as Captain with the same fearlessness, honor, compassion that you have shown in all your years of service?"

"Yes, sir, I will." Matt nodded.

"Then I believe we are ready to make this official." Chief continued, looking over the younger man's shoulder at Ana. "Do you have it?"

"I do." She nodded, producing a silver box from behind her back and opening it to reveal an object of the same color.

Gabby stepped forwards from the crowd and walked over to her husband.

"That badge belonged to the first captain Firehouse 51 ever had, along with the thousands of fires he handled in his career. He was around for the 1910 Union Stock Yards fire. 21 firefighters lost their lives in that fire. But it would've been a lot more if it weren't for the leadership of that captain. It's a tradition I know you'll live up to." She smiled.

"This badge has been handed down to each and every one of 51's captains until, eventually, it was given to me. And now, it brings me great pleasure to be able to pass it onto you." Ana grinned, carefully taking the badge out and pinning it to the left side of Matt's uniform. "Congratulations, Captain Casey."

The brunette stepped back and everyone started clapping, only stopping once Matt held his hand up.

"I appreciate this honor. I do. But if anyone deserves to be honored today, it's you, Gabby. The lives you saved. The odds you faced. You're an inspiration. I hope you know that." He smiled, softly.

Everyone started clapping and cheering again. Ana watched Matt and Gabby share a hug before moving in for one herself.

"I'm so proud of you, Matt." She whispered.

"Thanks, Mom." He murmured into her shoulder.

The two didn't want to let go of each other but were forced apart by Ana's buzzing phone. The smile on her face faded away at the sight of whatever was on the screen.

"What is it?" Chief wondered, slightly concerned.

"Nothing good." The brunette replied, grimly.

"Go." He nodded, knowing that look combined with her tone of voice meant she just caught the beginnings of a rough case.

Ana wasted no time rushing back into the Firehouse, changing, and sprinting towards her car.

*District 21: Bullpen*

Hank was leaning back on Alvin's desk, with the owner in his chair, when Ana walked in.

"Someone please explain to me how the meth bust turned into a kidnapping and double homicide." She demanded, heading straight over to her husband and best male friend.
