*District 21: Bullpen*
Antonio was standing by the whiteboard and everyone else was forming a semi circle around it. Ana was standing to Alvin's right and Hank had yet to come out of the Office.
"So our Jane Doe is Latina. Mid to late 20s. Negative on the prints. Nothing in our databases. M.E. is still processing the body." Abtonio informed.
"But it appears she was a drug mule?" Kim asked in confirmation from Alvin's left.
"Yeah, and they had a problem recovering the product, so they gutted her like a farm animal." Antonio replied, grimly.
"Dope's worth more than the carriers." Adam pointed out.
"Rigor puts time of death between 6:00 and 8:00 last night. Crime scene techs found very little blood on the scene, so she was killed someplace else, and then dropped here." Hailey explained.
"Why is homicide passing this off to us?" Ana wondered as Hank appeared on her right while messing with his sleeves.
"I said we'd take it." Antonio shrugged.
"Mm. I bet Homicide was real sorry to see this one go." The older man joked, walling towards the whiteboard and turning back to his wife. "All right. "
"Okay, send out patrol to canvass the neighborhood where the body was found. Check pod cameras and missing persons." Ana ordered. "This young lady didn't just fall from the sky."
"I got a C.I. deep in with these cartel guys." Alvin spoke up.
"Good." Hank nodded, moving towards the Office and pausing as he remembered something. "Oh, Antonio, Burgess. You two are gonna partner up now."
"Ah, it's a lovely game of musical chairs." Alvin remarked and Ana smirked, following her husband inside the small room.
*A Little While Later*
Ana was sitting on Alvin's desk but slid off when Jay and Kim came out of the Interrogation Area. Alvin's CI came through and Jay had just finished interviewing a suspect with Hank.
"According to the girl, all the mules are around 15. The DOA looks closer to 30." Kim informed as they walked over.
"And if there were drugs inside her, they would've cut down, not across, apparently." Jay added.
"You know what else the cartel doesn't do? Rape drug mules." Hailey spoke up, handing Ana a piece of paper just as Antonio stood up and looked over the brunette's shoulder. "Just got the M.E. report. The DOA had significant vaginal tearing and the cause of death was strangulation."
Ana bit her lip and pushed down the urge to look away. Hailey knew absolutely nothing about Yates and the older woman wanted to keep it that way. Which is why the brunette was grateful when the blonde didn't notice the sad/slightly concerned looks she was getting from the rest of the team.
"So the slice across her stomach?" Antonio wondered.
"Must've been done after the fact." Hailey replied.
"You're saying that someone raped her, killed her, and cut her open to make it look like she was a mule?" Antonio asked in confirmation.
"Who's gonna cry over some anonymous Latina drug runner?" Hailey pointed out in response.
"Patrol just found bloody clothes in an alley near where the body was dumped." Kim informed from ger desk just as Hank walked in from the Interrogation Area.
"Hit it." He ordered, pointing at Antonio.
