Will came straight over and found that Ana had made it to the couch in the time it took him to drive there. He checked her over, throughly, coming up with nothing more then a few bruised ribs, among other things, and a concussion. As much as the redhead wanted to bring her in for a head CT, he had a promise to keep and merely gave her some stronger pain meds instead. The brunette gave him a grateful smile and he returned it with a soft nod.
Will took her injured hand into his own and made quick work of changing out the bandage. He gathered his things and walked back towards the door. Ana watched him go before slumping back against the couch with a sigh and ignoring the tears pricking at her eyes.
*A Few Days Later*
Ana was standing near her kitchen when she felt a dull ache in her side and reached into her jacket pocket. She pulled out an orange bottle, swallowed a pill, and reached for a nearby glass of water to wash it down.
The brunette suddenly looked up when a knock resounded from her front door. She cautiously walked over, keeping her right hand hidden her pocket and putting her left on the knob. Ana cracked it open and took a peak before stepping back with a smile.
"Hi, Oli." She greeted.
"Hey." Alvin murmured, softly as a unique, deep, gravelly voice spoke up from further inside the house.
"Who is it, Princess?" Hank wondered as he appeared behind his wife and caught sight of his best friend in the doorway. "Hey, man."
"Hey, man." The Detective echoed back as he stepped in, revealing the red and white striped thermos in his hands.
"You brought us coffee?" Ana chuckled, taking it from him while he closed the door.
"Yeah." Alvin nodded albeit a bit sheepishly.
"You realize, I think the last time you brought me coffee, we were riding in a squad together." Hank pointed out as he took the thermos from the brunette and began walking towards the kitchen.
"Well, return to basics is good." Alvin retorted, moving to follow him.
"That right?" The older man smirked, turning back around. "I didn't realize either one of us missed your burnt coffee."
Alvin didn't respond and Ana knew something was extremely wrong when he just stood there and gazed, sadly, at the shelves that held the couple's most prized photos.
"Oli, what's going on?" She inquired, gently, as Hank came back over to the two.
His smirk was long gone and replaced with a concerned look that he didn't feel the need to hide in the presence of the two people he trusted the most.
"Terry, uh, from Narcotics called me last night. Ruben Gilbright's, uh, possession charge was dropped." The Detective revealed with a sigh and the brunette felt her heart drop into her stomach. "So. . ."
Hank looked down a released a grunt in reply.
"Our plan didn't work." Alvin muttered, glancing at Ana before returning his gaze to the older man. "Woods is protecting him. Wants to make sure he can testify against me."
"All right." Hank whispered, giving a small nod.
"If Internal Affairs is gonna show up on my door with, uh, an arrest warrant-"
"Al, I'm not gonna- we're not gonna let it get that far." The older man shook his head.
"You're damn right, we're not." Ana hissed.
"Yes, you are. For all of our sakes, yours especially, Ana, yes you are." Alvin retorted, gently, getting a scoff from the male Sergeant in reply. "Hank, we let it come. Because in the end, they won't have enough. So we let it hit me. I go through it. Deal with the Hell. And we come out the other side. That's the way we all get saved here. Okay?" He reasoned, glancing between his two best friends.
