*Outside Courthouse*

Rafael was getting some coffee from a nearby cart when Ana and Olivia spotted him. They rushed over and Ana hid a wince as it jostled her injured body.

"Rafa, what the Hell?" Olivia yelled as by way of greeting.

"One Latte and one black, right?" He asked in confirmation while taking a deep breath.

"I don't want coffee." She hissed, brushing past him and walking a few feet away.

Unlike her older sister, Ana had accepted the drink offer with a small smile as she really needed it at the moment.

The two joined Olivia again and she glared at the ADA

"You killed the baby?" She asked in shock and disbelief.

"I expedited his passing." Rafael corrected.

"That's gonna be a tough hair to split in a courtroom." Olivia pointed out.

"The courtroom's the last thing I was thinking of when I was in that hospital room." He shot back, beginning to walk away when the Lieutenant stopped him.

"You could go to prison." She growled out, anger fueled further by her friend's stubbornness.

"You don't think I know that?" Rafael snapped. "Sometimes you have to act without concern for the consequences."

"Not you. You wear suspenders and a belt." Olivia retorted, gently.

He stared at her for a few seconds and let out a small sigh.

"I had no option." The ADA muttered.

"I gotta fix this." The Lieutenant whispered, shaking her head.

"Liv. Liv!" Rafael called as she turned and walked away. "Liv, you can't help me."

Olivia merely ignored him and continued on her way. The ADA sighed and turned to Ana with a raised brow, wondering why she hadn't rushed after her sister. The Sergeant just stared at him with an undreadable expression.

"I don't know what to think Rafa." She admitted. "Liv wouldn't tell me anything, just that you killed some baby and I-" Ana paused, releasing a long breath. "I need you to explain it to me so I can get a sense of what the Hell happened last night."

Rafael sighed and looked down.

"What seemed like a father kidnapping his son turned out to be him trying to keep his wife from killing their child." He took a deep breath before continuing. "The mother was trying to get a court order to allow the hospital to take her son off of life support. The baby had an illness that practically rendered him brain dead. He couldn't hear, see, move, breath, eat, or even think on his own. All that little boy would ever know was pain." The ADA sniffled, tears having gathered in his eyes while he was talking.

He looked back up to find Ana gazing at him with soft, sympathetic eyes.

"Just tell that to the jury then, and you'll be fine." She smiled, turning in the direction her sister went. "And Rafa, I would've done the same." He stared at her with wide eyes. "I know what it's like to see your child in that position."

The Sergeant's smile turned sad as her mind flashed back to a memory of Justin lying in a bed at Chicago Med. The brunette gave Rafael one last nod and raised her coffee cup before heading off to find Olivia.
