*Crime Scene*
Hank and Ana arrived after a bomb went off in an area where Kim, Kevin, and Adam were doing a uniformed detail at. The two walked towards Adam and were a little relieved when they saw that he was physically unharmed. The older man looked over at the Fed standing next to him and held out his hand.
"Hi. Sergeants Hank and Ana Voight, Intelligence." He greeted while the brunette nodded and looked down in response.
"Special Agent in charge, Steve Burns." The Fed replied, shaking the outstretched limb.
"Hey, what do we know?" Hank inquired, turning to Adam.
"Negative on a secondary device. We got two civilians DOA. Two dozen injured, some severely. One suspect on the table at Chicago Med." He listed.
"Could've been a lot worse, if not for your people." Steve added. "The bomb is reasonably sophisticated, but with all the Internet sites these days, you could probably build a bomb like this in your garage after a couple of visits to a hardware store." He explained.
"So we're calling this what it is?" Hank asked in confirmation. "Terrorism."
"Appears that way to me. I don't think we're dealing with Osama bin Laden, but they're not stupid, either. They got a bomb into a secure location loaded with civilians." Steve pointed out.
"All right. Anyone claim responsibility?" The older man wondered.
"Not yet. That usually means they're not finished." The Fed replied.
"Once we clear this scene, we can run leads out of the 21st." Hank offered.
"Look forward to working with you." Steve nodded, shaking the older man's hand again and glancing back at Adam. "Let's get these bastards."
He walked off and the three cops headed over towards the van were Kim and Kevin were waiting.
"What do we have?" Ana inquired.
"The van was reported stolen from the Gage Park area last week." Adam informed.
"And apparently, they parked this van in one of these garages down there, because the traffic camera on the corner picked it up coming down the alley five minutes before the blast." Kevin added, pointing down the alley and across the street.
"So either they got real lucky, or they knew that the garage was inside the frozen zone." Adam finished.
"What, you mean they got someone on the inside with access to our ops plan?" Hank asked in confirmation.
"Yeah." Adam nodded.
"Offender who got hit by the car is Bashir Wateef." Antonio informed, appearing behind the two Sergeants with an iPad. "He's 25. A few arrests on his rap, but mostly misdemeanor property crimes. Nothing close to this."
"He lives in Gage Park, the same neighborhood the van was stolen from." Jay added, leaning against the van and taking his sunglasses off.
"Listen, grab Upton, head over to Med. Get us some names." Hank ordered.
"The rest of you head over to Gage Park." Ana instructed.
"Hit some wards, twist some arms, talk to your CIs. Somebody out there knows something." The older man pointed out.
"There's a lot of Arabic speakers out that way, boss. We could use someone who speaks the language." Adam realized.
"Toma. He was working the detail too. He's fluent. Helped us out with a Syrian witness a few weeks ago." Kim replied, instantly.
