"jeongin's coming back next week!"

seungmin entered the room with a bright smile on his face, felix raising an eyebrow at how he skipped into the room.

"are you happy about that?"

seungmin nodded, sitting on the seat opposite felix. the boy took note of how despite his smile and his joyous expressions, seungmin had twirled a loose strand of thread around his index finger. slowly, its' grip became tighter and tighter, his finger turning paler by the second.

"it's good that you're happy but is that really what you came here to talk about?"

the boy averted his gaze elsewhere, felix not missing how he had inched backwards slightly at his seemingly harmless question.

"would i sound horrible if i said that i constantly avoid talking about hyunjin with jeongin?"

there it was — the problem that had been itching to come out of him.

in his time as the school's peer counsellor, he had known well enough that people who deemed themselves 'happy' would see no reason to even set foot in the yellow coloured room filled with motivational quotes (as if words on paper were enough to suddenly make a person feel themselves again). so the very second that seungmin had placed his foot within the confines of the sunshine room, felix already knew that he had an issue he wanted to address.

"why would you think that as horrible?"

seungmin cleared his throat, subconsciously rubbing the back of his neck, so harshly that felix was certain it would have left a reddish tint on his skin.

despite having been in the same class as seungmin since their first year, felix still couldn't quite understand him. sure, he was hyunjin's ex and jeongin's best friend but apart from that, the boy never seemed to distinguish himself in any other way, constantly being a shadow that no one really noticed.

felix couldn't understand if that was a choice or if it was something accidental that the boy hadn't even noticed. all he knew was that seungmin had placed those two people on a pedestal so high above himself that he had made it seem as though his only goal was to care for them at the expense of himself.

he understood that logic but to see someone follow it so strictly and truthfully was something new to him, the people that had come and go in his life only ever saying such things but never adhering to it.

empty words - that was all they were good at.

"it feels as though...as though i'm hiding things from jeongin and i-"

seungmin took a deep breath, his shoulders drooping as he closed his eyes for a moment.

"i don't want to lose jeongin too."

he knew that seungmin meant well, knew that he would do anything for his friends even if it hurt him but seeing him crumble all because of that love and care he had towards them made felix feel some sort of pain in his chest which left a bitter taste on his tongue.

if friendship were so beautiful and true, why did it seem so fickle?

"what makes you think that you'll lose him?"

seungmin continued twirling the thread around his finger, the action itself drawing all of felixs' attention onto it until eventually, the thread snapped under the pressure, felix tilting his head slightly while seungmin stared blankly at the broken thread in his hands.

"i...i don't know."

"look, jeongin's your best friend. sure he may have feelings for hyunjin but i doubt he'd abandon you for him."

seungmin nodded slightly, his hands trembling as he attempted to tie the thread back together.

"have you...have you ever lost a friend before?"

the question took felix by surprise which he quickly masked with that same smile that everyone believed in.

"no, i haven't."

when changbin entered the room, felix felt his heart skip a beat, immediately noticing the sunflower in his hands as well as the sunflower pin the boy wore on his grey jacket.

"at the rate you're giving me flowers, i might become a florist."

changbin chuckled, dropping the flower in felixs' lap and draping an arm around him, erasing the distance between them by lightly pulling him closer.

with everyday that passed, felix noticed how changbins' once entirely black clothing became lighter and lighter as though he no longer felt the need to hide himself in some form of darkness or mystery and yet, felix felt as though there were more layers to changbin that he knew nothing about but he knew that he shouldn't pry.

"i like giving you small gifts everyday. is that a problem for you mr. sunshine?"

felix felt his ears turning a bright red, pulling his hood up to hide the blooming warmth on his ears which caused changbin to laugh, a laugh that to felix sounded like an angels' song.

"cute."

"i'm not cute."

felix played with the stem of the sunflower, his eyes focused on it before he felt changbins' fingertips brush against his, gently taking the flower out of his grasps and tucking it behind felixs' ear (after taking his hood off).

"i'm beginning to enjoy these counselling sessions more and more."

changbin said, smiling before taking his phone out to take a picture of the blonde haired boy. when felix turned to look at changbin, he couldn't surpress his smile either upon seeing how fondly changbin was staring at the poorly taken picture of him.

he had never felt so at ease as he did whenever he was with changbin and a part of him wished for that feeling to last for a lifetime, changbin quietly setting the photo he had taken as his homescreen wallpaper which made felix feel all the more loved and appreciated.

"i'm enjoying them too-"

but before he could finish his sentence, a teacher barged in along with the school counsellor, both their faces frowning as the school counsellor approached changbin and harshly took him by the arm, forcing him out of the sunshine room as though he were some sort of criminal.

and all that felix could do was watch, the teacher in charge preventing him from even reaching out towards the boy who had given him solace yet had his taken away from him right before his eyes.
