Shoto's pov
The bell for the end of the day had rung about 15 minutes ago but I hadn't moved from the closet. Aizawa still had her head leaned against my shoulder. She had woken up a while ago but it seemed off. She had eventually fell back asleep again. She stirred against my shoulder, lifting her head up and rubbing one hand up against her eyes.
"What time is it?" she mumbled through a yawn.
"The final bell rang about 15 minutes ago" she looked towards me with wide eyes.
"I slept through the entire afternoon. Shit" she was shoving her bottle and the plastic tub back into her bag. I got to my feet, legs stiff from sitting down for so long in the same position. I picked up my own bag.
"I'm so sorry. You missed class because of me" she apologised, swinging her bag over her shoulder. I grab her hand. She looks down at my hand.
"Its fine. Are you alright?" she blinked up at me then nodded. She didn't make any move to leave for a minute. She lifted one hand up and pushed some hair behind her ear.
"We should probably get out of here before someone finds us in here" she reaches for the door handle and opens the door. I follow her out of the room and towards the main entrance. The halls were quite vacant. There were some groups of students meeting up or lone students walking to different locations but compared to the normal amount it was pretty low. We reached the main entrance and I recognised dad's car. Aizawa waved to me as she started walking down the street towards her house. I walked down to the car.
"Get in" he ordered. I grumbled in response but got in the car anyway, sitting in the passanger seat.
"I was called about you not showing up to your afternoon classes" he scolded me, one finger tapping on the steering wheel as we pulled out of the parking space and onto the road.
"I was helping a friend" I don't look at him, crossing my arms over my chest.
"That is no excuse for missing important work"
"A couple lessons aren't as important as my friend"
"Is this friend the same one that got you down in those tunnels" he didn't look at me either but that might be because he was focused on the road.
"Why do you keep bringing that up. Its not like I went down there on purpose"
"I suggest you stay away from this friend. They're a bad influence on you" he kept his voice steady. The car was filled with thick silence.
"Too late. I have her number and I'm going out with her on Friday" I object. His grip on the steering wheel loosened. I actually thought he'd be mad about me hanging out with Aizawa but he didn't seem mad anymore. I had to think about it for a moment. Then it hit me. Ironically dad also hit the breaks at a red light at the same time.
"Its not what you think at all. I'm not dating her" I snap, swinging to look at him with one hand on the dashboard.
"She has to have a strong quirk if she's in U.A" he states.
"Aizawa is my friend. Even if I was dating her, I wouldn't do so because of her quirk" I object. He tapped a finger on the wheel again.
"Aizawa? So she's related to Eraserhead"
"Is that all you care about? I am nothing like you. I would never boil down Aizawa to just her quirk" I snapped, curling my fingers against the dashboard. It felt like my blood was on fire and not because of my quirk. It felt like he was insulting Aizawa by just bothering about her quirk, parentage and that she's a girl.
"Shoto. You need to think about who you are going to have carry on our family legacy sooner or later"
"This is just because of her quirk, family ties and that she's a girl. Its not about what I want at all"
"Shoto-"
"I would consider Aizawa the closest friend I have. She's the one who told me that I might actually have issues and to see a therapist"
"Excuse me?"
"Oh yeah. I never told you because you haven't listened to me once since I got back from those tunnels unless its something you want to hear" I flop back against the back of my chair. He doesn't speak as we pull up in the driveway. I unclip my seatbelt and get out of the car. I walk past Fuyumi, vaguley hearing her greet me and walk to my room. I slap the door shut behind me and dump my bag on the floor, flopping down on my futon. I look over at my bag, a sliver of the ticket sticking out from my bag. That's right. I had to text Aizawa. I pulled my phone from my pocket. I entered my contacts, scrowling through the minimal amount of numbers. Her number sat below Natsuo's. I clicked on the name, bringing up the contact. There was no picture attached. Just a name and number. I pressed my thumb on the message icon, pulling up a brand new conversation. The screen prompted me to send the first message. My heart was thudding in my chest and my hands felt sweaty.
"Maybe I can wait for her to message me" I mumbled allowed. That line of thought was cut off quickly. I never gave Aizawa my number so she couldn't message me back. I had to message her. I typed some words then promptly deleted them. I retyped the message and erased that too. I finally settled on something.
Hey.It took a while for her to respond.
If this is someone looking for Derek then fuck off. I don't even live in America
That was an interesting response.
Its Shoto
Who the fuck is that
Todoroki
Oh. Whoops my bad. I've been getting texts about this guy called Derek for a few months now and forgot I'd given you my number
What's up
I was texting you so that you'd have my number
Right. Right. Makes sense.
So have you got an idea on where we're meeting?
Aizawa was quiet for a few minutes, not even a sign of those small dots. She finally responded.
Sorry my brothers were being pests and trying to steal my phone. We're meeting at the fountain in the shopping mall. Since the movie isn't until 8:15, we all agreed that we'd go shopping and get a meal before the movie started
Yeah that sounds fine
Cool. Good to know your on board with the plan
Aizawa's message was followed up with an emoji. Specifically the one that was winking. I held my phone in my hands before tossing it across my room. It landed on my bag without a scratch luckily. I reached up to touch my face which felt hot and sticky. I must be coming down with a fever or something. My phone buzzed again but I didn't bother checking it. Instead I pulled on my tie, thinking about what could possibly happen on Friday.
