"Hey, May." It was Dawn, her best friend, other than Misty, of course. "Do you like Drew?"

"Why would I like him?! He's the biggest jerk here!" May denied, her face flushed.

Dawn clicked her tongue. "Poor little May thinks that makes it less obvious."

May gulped, knowing where this was going. "Well, news flash, May but it makes it more obvious!"

She started squealing in pure delight.

"Truth be told, you and Hayden look good together, actually." Misty said, plopping a tempura in her mouth.

"And you wouldn't want to be left out, right?" Dawn added.

It was true, her best friends had boyfriends while May just sat there, her lifeless eyes dull.

"Speak of the devil, he's here! Come on, May! Tell him! Tell him!"

"Oh, May, what a pleasant surprise!" He grinned.
Pleasant! You heard that? Honey, that boy's head over heels for you! It was May's proverbial angel, whispering positive outcomes.
Tch, he's just gonna break your heart. The proverbial devil retorted.

Ignoring the bickering, May continued. "Hi."

"Would you like to hang out later?"

With too much to take, May fainted.

"May!" He screamed in panic.
