Chapter 37:

Whirlwind's P.O.V

I finally got Z to go to sleep, but it took a lot of convincing. She was terrified that Dream was going to come after her in her sleep, so she just wouldn't settle down. At all. I finally managed to get her calm by telling her that Dream would have to go through me if he wanted to hurt her, and my wings were pretty strong, despite me being weak. 

I was now resting my back against the wall, Z's head in my lap and I untangled her hair. She would do this for me all the time, so it's the least I can do for her. I thought about how long I had been here for, and how I have missed my family.

Dream told me that he left a note saying that I was pissed off at them for something they did, and to never talk to me again, so I probably wasn't going to ever find nor see them again. Unless they didn't move from their forest home, then I might just be able to find them. But I would have to find L'manberg first. 

I was just drifting off into sleep, when I heard something. Now, my hearing wasn't as keen as Z's, but it was still pretty sharp. I listened more closely, and heard soft lyrics coming from down the hallway.

"There once was a ship that put to sea, and the name of that ship was the Billy o' Tea" they sang. I vaguely recognized the song, but I couldn't put my finger on the lyrics. I heard tapping and turned to see Z's tail thumping loudly to the sound. The voice suddenly grew louder.

"The winds blew hard, her bow dipped down, blow, me bully boys, blow!" I joined in on the chorus, the lyrics coming off of my tongue easily enough.

"Soon may the Wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. One day, when the tonguing is done, we'll take our leave and go" We both sang. I could tell that the voice was higher than a males, but lower than a regular females.

"She had not been two weeks from shore, when down on her a right whale bore. The captain called all hands and swore, he'd take that whale in tow" It sang.

"Soon may the Wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. One day when the tonguing is done, we'll take our leave and go" Z sang, her eyes still closed. I was surprised that she was awake, but just smiled, hearing the next lyrics leave the unknown person's mouth once more. 

"Before the boat had hit the water, the whale's tail came up and caught her. All hands to the side, harpooned and fought her, when she dived down below" it sang. Then all three of us sang the chorus together. The mystery voice sang at an alto tone, while I sang higher in soprano, while Z sang in tenner. I was surprised she could go that low, but it sounded so good, that I let it pass.

"Soon may the Wellerman come, to bring us sugar and tea and rum. One day, when the tonguing is done, we'll take our leave and go" and that is how it went for the next few minutes. The voice would sing the lyrics in between, while we all would join in on the chorus. By the end of the song, Z's eyes were open, and she lay there, her head still in my lap, her eyes staring at the ceiling.

I was smiling. I could tell that Z liked the song, and it calmed her down more. Plus, this was the most fun thing that had happened to me in the 6 months I had been here. I sighed in content as the song came to an end. That song reminded me of so many things. 

The way me and Dad would fly over the sea, just us and occasionally Mum as well, but it was the most fun I had without my brothers. God, they were chaotic. But I love them, and I miss them a lot. 

The youngest would always drag me into trouble with him, and we would always get yelled at. The second oldest would always want to me to sing songs with him, I even helped him write a few! And the oldest, well, we liked to play a game called Bedwars. It was fun, and we won almost every game.
