Sure. Runoff like you always do. Those words Drake uttered last night strummed with empowerment inside my head. Drake's insults never really mattered to me before but what he said yesterday, stung deep. I hated to admit, it offended me more than it should. It was altruistically difficult for me to sustain in everything—the comparisons made by everyone especially my dad about how useless of a son I was. According to him, I was nothing like Jace, and that I couldn't agree less.

Jace and I were leaves of two different trees. Even though we were bounded by the same blood and soul, yet we differed in various ways. We acted nothing like siblings, instead had knives against the other's back. His fate changed that very day he lost his position as the Alpha when dad disowned him from every pack activities and threw him out. That moment for me was painful yet glorious– for I was getting the position as the Alpha. I was young back then. Maybe around twelve or thirteen when Dad decided to disown Jace for some disability— of not having a mate. In my case, it was the same but the difference was I was mated to someone who was not destined to be my mate and no one was aware of it, excluding Drake.

Frankly, I was running away from something. And that something was the comparison Drake brought up last night, much to my dislike. I never liked being compared to Jace, my elder brother out of all the people.

"Are you okay?" Hailey's soft voice asked, breaking my trance of anxiety. I looked up to see her worried face.

"Yes." I sighed, shifting a little on the bed. "Come, sit," I said patting the empty space next to me.

She obliged as she made her way towards the bed. "You know, you can tell me if something is bothering you." She whispered, her voice surprisingly soothing my distressed mood.

A smile crept up my lips as I stared at her. Who would have thought my relationship with Hailey would last so long? It has been almost fifteen years since we started off our relationship and till now nothing could tear us apart, not even Alina. Even till now, it amazed me how I ended up leaving my soul mate for someone I started dating when I was a kid. But then again, I guess it was fate.

Life with Alina was something I couldn't help but think of. We were bonded by fate yet again we were torn apart by fate itself. After the rejection, for me, it was hard to move on. I never imagined being able to survive especially without my wolf responding. But now I was fine and Hailey's accompany I must admit had an effect on me but in a good way.

I remember when she moved into my room permanently as my mate. It was a hard reality to acquire. Even though she had been to my room before but that was only for the night but when it reformed itself unalterably, I was intimidated. It took me a while to get used to it and now I was used to it.

"No, don't worry. It's just I had some argument with Drake." I answered.

"I'm sorry about that. But I know everything will work out. Since—you two are inseparable." She laughed.

My eyes widened at her statement. "Inseparable?"

"Yes, I sometimes wonder whether you two are mates or not since you are more attached to him more than your own mate." She pouted.

I smirked as I quickly moved and pinned her against the bed.

"—What!" She squeaked from underneath. I gripped both her hands as I lightly brushed my lips against her neck. She shuddered under my touch and closed her eyes.

"Now what were you saying, darling?" I whispered into her ears. She opened her eyes and at that moment I realised something essential. Even though I was not with my real mate but something about Hailey always seemed to make me happy.

"I love—"

"—Sorry–Shit!" The door slammed open as Drake's voice blared inside the room.
I hurriedly moved away from Hailey and sat straight on the bed glaring at him.

"Sorry for bashing in like that." He cleared his throat, "And ruining your moment, but there is something important."

I narrowed my eyes at him, "I'm not interested in talking to you right now. Get out."

"Dude come on! Stop acting like a girl and you're the alpha it's your duty to attend to every matter." Drake confined.

"Why are you talking to me anyway? Go and ask for Jace's advice." I huffed.

"Hail, make your thick-headed husband understand that he's being unbelievably stupid these days."

"Hail?" I raised an eyebrow, "Since when did you start calling your Luna, Hail?" I frowned.

"A long time ago." He smirked.

"Go away." I shooed him off.

"Can you just drill some sense inside that thick-headed husband of yours?" Drake advised Hailey, with a hint of mockery behind his voice.

"I swear if you call me thick-headed once again? I'll slit that throat of yours." I threatened.

"Sure." He rolled his eyes, "Anyway, I'll be waiting in the office just get there as soon as possible." He said and left closing the door behind him.

I knew it was another call.

Call of something wrong which laid ahead of us.

"See, you guys are inseparable." She laughed, "Hey! What if you both are homosexual?" She cooed, her eyes glowing with excitement.

I narrowed my eyes to slit as I glared at her, "What the fuck!?"

"It would be so cute!" She gushed, "You and him–"

"Can you just shut up!" I cringed, "For fuck's sake!"

"But you both look cute together." She continued. I knew she was doing that intentionally to lighten up the atmosphere.

"The last time I checked I was straight and you were underneath me, moaning, ah." A smirk crept up my lips as I reminded her of last night.

"Stop!" She cried her face red, "Enough of it. Now go."

"Go where?" I scowled, "You are throwing me out of my own room? How cruel you are, Hailey." I exasperated, placing my palm on my chest, "That hurt."

"James, really I think you should go. It must be something important."

"Fine!" I mumbled getting up from the bed.

Honestly, I knew that very moment when he barged in that something was wrong. But the truth was I myself was trying to avoid the news.

A/N:
