Alina
It has been a week since Drake and Hailey got buried in the Dark Moon Graveyard. The pack seemed rather quiet as every member kept their mouths shut and went on with their usual life. James had increased patrol, a lot more than we had expected him to implement. He even instructed his pack members to stay home as much as possible and keep the streets empty. We knew that there were abandoned wolves hidden in the territory and James made sure to take every precautionary measure to reduce the damage as much as possible.
James had been awfully quiet and only uttered a few words when necessary. I tried to bring him out of his shell, occasionally going to his room to give him company. He would end up sobbing and blaming himself for everything that had happened to Drake and Hailey. He even blamed himself for not being a good Alpha, ignoring his duties. I could tell he was heavily dependent on his Beta for everything. Drake's sudden death came off as a shock, not only for James but for us visitors as well. The entire situation reflected the vulnerability of the Dark Moon pack. The death of his lover at the same time only worsened his guilt.
Neil, Ron and I sat inside the room that was assigned to Neil. All three of us talked about the possible outcomes of us staying here, leaving the Red Blood pack vulnerable.
"I have a strong feeling that we will find some clues about Luke," Neil said. He stretched his arms and yawned. He at first thought it would be better for us to not sleep while we stayed here. He soon realised that it was impossible and then decided some of us would sleep while the others would guard, vice versa.
"I am not so certain about that," I mumbled. "For all we know, this could be a distraction to keep us away from the Red Blood pack."
Ron nodded. "I agree with Alina about leaving the pack vulnerable however I also know that Neil's instinct is accurate in this particular case."
I raised an eyebrow. "How is that?"
"It seems like the shapeshifters are keeping a close eye here," Ron said, pointing his index finger to the floor. "If you look at it, you'll see that the attacks in this particular pack are way off pattern. They are striking slow instead of just burning the whole pack down. Feels like a game of chess, taking one piece at a time."
"And it's getting interesting, day by day," Neil commented. "Plus we don't even have anything better to do. If we go back home, we'd have to start worrying about Luke and then we would also be concerned about the events taking place in the Dark Moon pack."
"It is smart for us to stay here and see the situation for ourselves," Ron added. "You can also be close to your mate. He is devastated."
I closed my eyes.
Neil snorted. "I am definitely not fond of Alpha James. I think I have already made that very clear. I don't like how he goes about dealing with situations that he created himself, but I do feel sorry for him. He didn't deserve to see his Beta die right in front of him. That's a lot. Hopefully, this will drill some sense into his head and he will at least try to clear the mess he made."
"I understand what you are saying. I will come along with you after everything gets sorted." I answered.
"Alright, plus we are here to guide you regardless of what you decide. He took you for granted, you have to understand that. I can't imagine leaving my mate for some other female wolf, that's absurd. It would kill my wolf." Neil exasperated, moving his hands in the air.
Ron nodded and said, "I am not even sure if he is extra stupid or just trying to be a man? He first chooses the wrong mate, then finds his real mate, takes a bullet for the real mate, literally—" He took a long breath and continued, "— then he goes around being stupid again by going for the wrong mate while keeping the real mate close. Too much drama, I tell you."
