I awkwardly stood in the corner and looked at Alina jumping around like a toddler. Not only was she jumping around but she was also hugging the man I had seen her within the Graveyard of Doom. I felt a pang of jealously run through me as she embraced him close and whispered some things into his ear. The smile he had on his face was evident that he liked her too. He even chuckled while patting her head. I watched as they both giggled and hugged some more. Drake was gaping at the sight in front of me whereas Jace had a lopsided smile on his face.
Shit man! — Drake mind-linked me.
What? — I snapped back.
How the hell is Beta Neil acquainted with Alina? She was from the Shadow Light Pack. — Drake asked through the mind-link again.
I don't know. — I answered gritting my teeth.
Though I have seen her with him when Jace and I ran into her. — I explained.
Shit is getting more exciting. — Drake chirped.
I focused on my respiration, trying to lessen the jealously that I was feeling inside, after seeing my mate all close and intertwined with another male. My wolf growled at the back of my mind and threatened to kill the man Alina was looking at, smiling like he was the one for her.
She never looked at me like that. — My wolf grunted. I couldn't help but agree.
My thoughts soon diverted when Drake welcomed the members inside the house. I looked at them carefully, noticing each of their aura. They all seemed powerful. The two men Alina stood next to two, seemed the most powerful. Beta Neil and Ron, I soon learnt their names. I was not aware of Ron's designation but I could sense his presence, it was strong.
"I reckon you have transported the abandoned wolf to our cell?" Jace asked them once they were inside, seated.
"Yes, we have." Beta Neil responded calmly. "Amazed to see them sneaking in at the same time."
Jace nodded his head and said, "That's why we have come to the conclusion that only by cooperating together we can help re-establish our stance and figure out the situation."
Everyone nodded in agreement and took their respective seats in the sitting area.
"The attacks have gotten a lot worse than what we had originally calculated." Beta Neil pronounced. "Seeing the sudden death of our acquaintances doesn't really help much."
"The very first Alpha who got attacked was none other than Alpha Andrew, the Alpha of the Shadow Light Pack," Jace stated. "For what we know, they were unable to defend themselves and the majority of the members turned against the Alpha."
Alina stiffened next to Beta Neil. Even Beta Neil, Ron along with Drake and Jace noticed her sudden posture. She remained silent as we spoke.
"He was fortunate he didn't get killed." Ron specified. "However, he was not fortunate enough to save the pack which is in ruins now. We still don't know where he is now or what he is up to."
"It's not only Alpha Andrew but, many others as well. Some got burnt to death whereas others were brutally slaughtered during the fire." Drake stated in between.
I remembered the time Drake said our pack was probably the next in line of potentially getting attacked. I didn't pay much attention to him back then. At this point in time, however, I knew we were the next in line.
"The pattern of attacks are rather similar." Jace looked at Beta Neil and pointed out. "If you see how the majority of them got burnt down during the night, the pattern would seem rather similar."
"I believe it's not just the abandoned wolves." Ron asserted. "It seems like a lot of work for just the abandoned wolves to carry out. The planning, the execution and everything in between. Hard work."
I pressed my lips into a thin line and heard his justifications.
"I believe there is a lot more than just hatred from the abandoned wolves. There is something hidden in the Graveyard of Doom that we need to uncover for the sake of our existence. According to the myths, we know that the witch's remains mixed with sorcery and the brains of a shapeshifter can destroy us."
Jace gasped. "Are you saying that shapeshifters might be involved?"
This was the first time I saw Jace with an expression on his face that was far from being calm and composed. He looked scared.
"There is a possibility." Ron nodded. "We have been looking into it for a while now."
"We will learn more after we confront the captured wolves," Jace said.
Beta Neil opened his mouth but decided against adding more information. He looked at Alina and smiled.
"We have prepared respective resting space for all of you—" Drake announced, "– and meals. We will head to the cell after all of you are well-rested. I feel this discussion will last long."
Beta Neil shook his head, "We are fine, I thank you for your consideration. I am afraid we won't be able to stay around for long."
Jace looked at Beta Neil and furrowed his eyebrows. "Where is the Alpha?"
Jace had once again regained his neutral expression.
Both Beta Neil and Alina looked at each other. It seemed they were discussing something through their mind-link. How did she even end up in the Red Blood Pack?
"Our Alpha Luke, I am afraid, is currently busy and couldn't make it," Ron answered instead of Beta Neil.
Jace and Drake looked at me, almost urging me to speak.
"I see," I answered. I was more blinded by my jealousy and angst towards Alina for behaving like she was. She ignored me and was looking at Beta Neil the entire time. I could feel my blood boil and my mind pace with anxiety.
I wanted to make sure she was not involved with him but I also knew I had no way of knowing without snooping in on their conversations. Much to distaste, I knew I wouldn't stoop that low.
"I would leave you all to rest and then we can head to the cell to talk to both of the abandoned wolves," I announced. Alina nodded, a little more excitedly than I have ever seen. She ushered Beta Neil and the rest of her pack members to follow behind Drake who volunteered to show them their resting space.
I stomped out of the house furiously, stripped off my clothes and shifted to my wolf form. Without thinking much further, I picked my clothes from the ground using my mouth and sprinted towards the packhouse.
