"So Sherah, how was your day?" my mother asked, as we all sat down for dinner.

"It's was okay," Sherah replied, faking a smile for my parents. I had heard her tell Chase that she went to a job interview today, but didn't get the job because someone richer came in and bribed the owner, to giving the job to that person.

"Aww is everything okay?" my mom empathized, seeing right through her act, "Is money still tight?" My mother is a kind, sensitive person, she can see through any act, to the weak person hurting inside.

"Yeah," Sherah sighed, giving up on the fake smile, "I didn't get the job that I was interviewing for." She pushed around some of the food on her plate.

"If I were to go down there and speak to that man, I'm sure he would change his mind," My father offered, as he sat down. He had a lot of power in his words, he was very well liked through out the village too. My dad held most of the town meetings and votes.

"I'm sure he would sir, but you don't need to do that for me. It fine, really," Sherah refused politely, "I'll get the next one."

"Hey, is it maybe okay if she moved here? Into the guest room?" Chase suggested, "It would be better than staying in that inn I'm sure."

"That's a great idea, Chase," My dad replied.

"What? No, no, no, I can't," Sherah said, "your family has done so much for me I couldn't ask for more."

"Oh come on, we insist," my dad encouraged. "Besides it's already like your part of the family," My dad added and winked at Chase.

"There might be a few things around here that I could use some help with," My mother chimed in, "And you can still be looking for a job."

"What do you think, Lukas?" Chase asked, turning to me.

"I'm fine with it," I replied, before putting another spoonful of food in my mouth. I didn't get to eat much lunch, so I was really hungry.

"Then it's settled," My dad concluded, not really giving Sherah a chance to say no, "You can move in tomorrow, or tonight if you need to."

"...Okay," Sherah reluctantly agreed, "Tomorrow is fine. I'll gather up my stuff tonight, and then move tomorrow."

"Great," Chase said, "we'll have your room ready by then."

"Thank you," Sherah acknowledged, "You guys have been really, really, kind to me, I will ever be so grateful."

"It's our pleasure," My mom replied.

"Yeah," My dad agreed.

All of a sudden the fire alarm goes off. The sirens blaring. I covered my ears. Everyone else did the same.

"Is this a drill?" I yelled over the alarm.

"No, I don't think so," My dad said, looking around for fire.

"Then why is it going off?" I replied, "and why is it so loud?"

"I don't know, everyone let's try to get to the back door," My dad ordered, "I don't see fire yet but just to be safe."

I saw the smoke when we got to the kitchen it was the room next to the door. The fire was spreading. And fast. It already blocked the door now.

"Okay front door it is." my dad turned around, "at least now we know where the fire is." We all hurried to the front.

We saw the fire spread faster. It was like there was more than one fire. We got close to the front. But it was already blocked too. We'll have to find a window to jump out. There was only one window that wasn't block.
