"Bluer than blue, sadder than sad. You're the only light this empty room has ever had," I sang along the karaoke as I tagged my best friend with me for a drink. That night after having my first kiss with the boy I was nursing feelings for since high school felt like Cloud 9!
"Oh, some broken-hearted fella we have in here, huh?" my best friend suddenly asked me.
"....changed the numbers on my telephone...." I continued singing with all my heart out.
"Girl, just what's the matter with you?!" my best friend now exclaimed.
"Shots please!" I demanded trying to reach out to a glass of beer.
"Wait," my best friend grabbed my hand and took the glass of beer from out of my reach. "Are you OK?"
"I'm more than OK!" I exclaimed. Gosh, I just had my very first kiss so I must be very very OK!
"Did something happen earlier between you and Lance?" she inquired.
"What?!" I was dumbfounded on what to answer her.
"When I left you and Lance this afternoon at the shop, what happened?" she insisted on asking.
"Nothing," the only word that came out from my mouth as I took my hand away from her grab and reached farther for the glass of beer.
"Your nothing sounds like something really happened," she insinuated.
"He only apologized for the hassle he and Yvonne caused. That's all. Now it's your song," I handed her the mic as the prelude of the next song of the karaoke started playing.
"If something is going on with you because of Lance and don't ever bother telling me about it," she warned without even continuing her thoughts and just started to sing instead.
Though unsaid, I agreed with her. Yes, I had my first kiss. Yes, I was on Cloud 9 but I felt something was off. I parted with Lance that afternoon with him very excited and feeling fulfilled. With him very happy of what he had just somewhat "accomplished". He was mischievously glad about the kiss but I was not. He was so cool about it but I was agitated. He regarded it as something normal but not to me. I felt that that kiss was illegal, that maybe I was the reason why he and Yvonne called off their wedding.
"Keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love. You cut me open.....," my best friend's karaoke song says.
