Mphakamseni The Arranged Man
#25MPHAKAMSENI
The atmosphere was tense and I didn't really care less knowing that I caused all the drama. I needed to get what has been battling in my chest. Why would I care about her feelings when she made my life a living hell in my own home? I'm no longer the old Mphakamseni that they use to bully and make fun of. I will be standing my ground from today onwards, tolerating bullshit has ended. When I say I'm a man and no longer that little boy, I mean I'm a man!
I look at my mother's facial expression after telling Ntombizodwa, it was actually priceless. Everyone was shocked and I held my head up high making my grandpa smile in agreement. Honestly it felt good like a huge painful sharp rock has been lifted off my shoulders, I feel less tense and free. I see baba standing under the tree looking outside the gate I decided to go to him and apologize for my behavior earlier. I know it was uncalled for, but some people do know how to press your buttons. It's like some people are meant to ruin other people's lives.
"Mapholoba," I decided to call him by his clan name trying to win my way to him. He turned around and looked at me and I cannot read his expression.
"Aaah I knew that someday you will make me proud. Remember when I told you that one day they will worship the ground you walk on and you didn't believe me." Atleast the old man is not angry with me. I thank the God's.
"Ay baba, maybe do you have to remind me?" This old man is making me blush, unbelievable!
"Remember what I told you after you got married about your wife." The smile on his face is priceless.
"That she will be the woman who will wipe the tears and put smile on my face." I grinne thinking about my beautiful beautiful wife.
"And more is still yet to come just watch the space. I'm glad of the encounter that you pulled there, you were brave and made me proud son." And immediately I feel guilty.
"I'M sorry about you know the r....," The old man cuts me short before I could even finish the sentence.
"Kanti relax, I long knew all along. I was just waiting for this day to come and it has finally come." His voice is pained. I wonder how he managed to keep this secret for so many years.
"So what are you going to do about it?" That I would like to know.
"Nothing son. I'll just wait for the wife called karmer to visit them," we laugh, that I didn't expect. Talking to this Olaf man can be refreshing. I wish I had this kind of relationship with my father. We continued to talk about the funeral arrangements, and later we drove to the hospital to check on Muzi.MUZIKAYISE
I almost lost my life because of the unknown hatred that I had. The hate I had for my old blood, the hate I had for someone I share the same womb with. It saddens me, it pains me that I went to that extent to make his life miserable in our home. He was suppose to find comfort in us, but we turned out backs on him. I'm thankful for a second chance in life. This time around, I will make sure that I will embrace this chance for the better and best. But something has been worrying me, my brother's are not well but they refuse to tell me saying everything is fine. I'm just praying that there is nothing wrong, for now I'm praying and hoping for the best.
I need to use the bathroom I'm so pressed and I need someone to help me stand I can walk on my own.
"Excuse me miss, can you help me stand, please." I hate begging but right now I have no choice.
This nurse has been on my side ever since I woke up. Her dark skin beauty makes her look more beautiful. She gently helps me stand handing me the crutches. Taking baby steps to the bathroom felt like a whole year. Atleast I am able to do my business without being assisted.
The noise in my ward is filled with loud voices, seriously I don't know how baba manage to be around these people.
"Mafavuke don't tell me you abusing my wife," Sphesihle says kissing the nurses cheecks making her blush.
"I never thought I'll see this day. The whole Sphe is inlove aykhona." Lungelo.
"Clearly I've missed out on a lot. This shows that you won't suffer, hold on for your dear life. She's been taking good care of me." I honestly say. Without this woman and her tender care, I wouldn't have recovered this early.
"That reminds me I need someone that will help Zelo. You know her pregnancy is a high risk one so I don't want to take any chances. Hiring a nurse to look after you at home will make you recover quickly." Phaka's adds making me to feel all sorts of emotions. After everything I've done to this man he still have the heart to help me.
"Do you know how expensive nurses are? Why not get someone? I mean anyone who is ineed for a job. You have babies on the way and the funeral preps damaged your pocket alot." Sphe has a point. Maybe finding someone who really needs a job will do.
"His right son just look for someone who's going to have reasonable pay check than the expensive one." Baba adds.
"I don't know anyone." Phaka's says softly.
"I'm sorry to intrude your conversation but theirs my neighbour who is indeed of a job as in tomorow anything will do at the moment. I just want her out of that house." The nurse informs us looking down playing with her fingers.
"why?" Trust Phaka's with alot of questions that will make you uncomfortable.
"Can, "clearing her throat" her step father and brother's rape her every chance they get and her mother defends them." She sheds a few tears and I can tell that this person means alot to her.
"But if we take her won't we put her at risk Blackberry yami?" Sphe and his concerns.
The nurse thought for a while, "If maybe sis Zelo or mama go to her place it would be more better since they are women." She suggests and it sounds like a plan that will work.
"Okay,"
"Ngyaphuma ksasa which means it's something that has to be done today." Muzi says softly, he doesn't want to bother Phaka's any more.
"Can we have the address luckily my mother is still around." Phaka's begs her
Angela was ecstatic that her friend will be out of that hell hole and do something for herself. She has endured abuse since primary at her early age but kept it all inside. Her step father brought his drunkard two sons along to live with them and ever since then they have been making her a sex doll. She sometimes sleep outside, if Angela is around she would help her out but if she's not around life is hard for her friend. She her only one true best friend, a friend she swore that she will never turn her back on no matter what.
"Here," she hands them a piece of paper. "Please don't tell them that I told you cause they will cause havoc.
They stayed a little longer and later on they all went to Phaka's mansion.MPHAKAMSENI
I found my two favourite woman having strawberries mixed with coke, that's her everyday juice and damn it taste bitter. I look at my mother's face and I can tell that she's having a hard time swollowing, shame I'm just happy I'm not in that position she's in.
"Thank God you back. You're wife has been missing so, so badly." My mother quickly stands up trying to run away.
"Ah mah we still having our shakes and I don't miss Phaka. I almost forgot have you ever tried scones dipped in condence milk, let me go make it for you, you should try it." Zelo beams in joy standing up excitedly and ran to the kitchen.
"I can't take this anymore." My mother sinks down on the couch.
"Now you know what I will be facing for the next entire 7 months gosh sengyabona. Anyway we need to talk."
We sat down and waited for Zelo to come back to talk about the issue at hand. After informing them about the issue they agreed to it.
"How old is she?" My mother is sounding heart broken. Who wouldn't be this heart broken after barring these kind of news.
"Not sure 19."
"Ok so now that we know the situation it's much more better. And they were right the nurse will be pretty much expensive and the girl will be good if we pay her R5000 plus she will be living with them in the house, cause she will be assisting here and there I the house.
"I will also add a little." Zeli adds to the statement.
Minutes later they drove to Petermarizburg to Nomkhosi's home town. They drived asking around until they were parked infront of a one room house. There were no windows, a white girl peeped through a window and saw a car she's never seen before in her entire life.
"Fusegi doti, what are you looking at," a woman from the inside shout, back slapping the girl at the back of her head, she looked down not knowing what to say until a knock came through. Mawe her mother opened the door and saw expensive people standing at the broken door.
"What has this prostitute done now. Who did she rape this time around. It's not enough that she seduces my husband and his son's." Mawe speaks out loud not caring about her neighbours.
"Can we come in? Bongekile asks politely. Mawe moved aside and let them in.
"Can I offer you anything. We only have stout in this house." Mawe asks them feeling some sort of uncomfortable due to the environment.
"Don't bother yourself." Phaka's responds in annoyance. The state of this house is very bad. How does it accomodate four people?
"The main reason we are here is because we would like your daughter to us assists at home. She will be basically taking care of someone who is physically ill until they get back on their feet. Once he becomes better she will come back home."
"Hehehe," Mawe clapps her hands once making Bongekile to think of did she say something wrong. "This useless white goat knows nothing rather than opening her legs for married men. Take her I don't need her anyway she comes with somuch baggage. She's no use to me anyway. Don't come back when things get tough for you."
"Who's going to feed us free food now. Phela she has good food." The drunk step-father Mandla says burpping.
As a mother, Bonge kept quite and observed the situation and it was too much for her. Everything, she has just concluded it in her head. No child should live under this environment. "Nana go take your bag and lets go." She says softly with a lump stuck up her throat.
Nomkhosi took her bag that only has 5 dresses that her friend Angela bought for her. She's the only person that has ever cared about her well being. She only owns one pair of shoes, two undergarments, they have huge holes on her butt area and a dishwashing cloth that she uses to wash her body with. And she has no cosmetics, who would buy for her? She looked at her mother with teary pained eyes one last time and she went out without saying any goodbyes. She left with a broken heavy heart. She said a little prayer within herslef for God to protect her as she is going on a journey with stranger's.
