Chapter 18: Consequences

After the news channels got a hold of Mr. Cruz's hidden deeds, every channel was reporting it and the members of the public were starting to complain. At first he thought that this would eventually go away and no one would pay that much attention to the story, but as it turns out, not much people were a fan of his cheating on his wife or having children with his mistress. The media certainly didn't give him a break even though his daughters were missing. Governor Cruz turned on his television in his office to see if the media was discussing his daughter's disappearance. You can just imagine his surprise when Breaking News reported the following information live:

"Welcome to Breaking News, I'm Kerry Walsh and this is my co-anchor Maria Calloway. Today we discuss more on Governor Cruz's personal affairs as they have been aired out earlier this week. Maria, what do you make of Governor Cruz's plea for his missing daughters? Do you think that it is a play to make the public feel sorry for him or do you think that this is real?" Kerry asked.

"Honestly, I don't know what to believe. I mean I would like to think that he wouldn't waste resources like that knowing our state's shortages and budgeting crises, but it's hard to put anything past him. If it is for the sake of saving his office, then I hope that they lock him away and burn the key. They usually say throw away the key, but I think the key should be burned just in case it's found rendering it unusable," Maria explained.

"Harsh much, Maria? I hear you, definitely there should be no sympathy for him, but if his girls are really missing we are praying for their safe return. Well, missing or not, one thing we are sure about is that the Governor did not pay his taxes and he is now in trouble with the government on top of all of his other dirty secrets," Kerry stated.

"Isn't that something Kerry? It wasn't bad enough that he messed up his family. He wasn't paying his taxes too, how sad. I wonder if Ms. Cruz is in the same shoe, I mean they were married and they share a daughter. If she left Mr. Cruz in charge of the finances without checking to see what he was doing, then she is in trouble too. And you know what, I say lock her up too if that is the case. You can't trust anyone these days. I am so tired of us citizens having to follow the laws, but these government officials are exempt because of who they are or who they know," Maria fussed.

"Well, I agree with you on locking up Mr. Cruz, in fact I believe that he should lose his office immediately and be charged for not paying his taxes or whatever else criminal he is doing. Government officials should be held at a higher standard when it comes to not following the rules. However, I don't believe that his wife, who has endured so much and who, might I add is making a real difference in the lives of people, should pay for his foolishness," Kerry explained.

"Well, it's a good thing that it is not up to us. Let's here from a member of the public who called in to state her concerns. Welcome to the show Lisa, what is your take on the topic?" Maria said.

"Thank you for having me. I would like to first say that I represent most when I say that actions have consequences and Governor Cruz needs to have consequences for his actions. I personally believe that he should be fired and charged for his wrong doings. If there was a charge in the criminal world for adultery, I would've voted for that too. Unfortunately, he will be dealt with when he meets his maker. Governor Cruz has not done one thing for the community; he just sits in his office and promotes laws that no one agrees with or benefits from. He never step foot in the community like the other governors and now I see why. He was too busy stepping to the ladies. I want him gone. Fire Governor Cruz, fire Governor Cruz!" Lisa protested.

"Alright, you heard it here first! We are all certainly in agreement with Lisa and we will keep you posted on any updates with Governor Cruz or his successor. Stay tuned, Breaking News will be back after these commercials," Maria stated.

Governor Cruz raised his hand with the television remote and turned off his office TV. Then he threw it at the wall, crushing it into pieces. Just as the pieces crumbled to the floor, Maria walked into his office.

"That remote didn't do anything to you. What are we going to do about our girls? The media isn't going to help you. All because of your background. What are we going to do?" Maria cried.

"Maria, didn't I tell you that I would handle it? Why are you here? Your showing up whenever you want to is messing up everything!" Mr. Cruz yelled.

Mr. Cruz would've continued to argue with Maria, but a call came through and it didn't appear to be a good call. Mr. Cruz started destroying his office by throwing the desk and paper work. He screamed at Maria who was now on the ground crying. Security officers entered the room and escorted Mr. Cruz out of the building. They forgot to take him out of the building through the back doors, because there were news reporters rushing up to him.

"Governor Cruz, we just heard that you were removed from office. Is that true?" Kerry yelled at Mr. Cruz.

Mr. Cruz didn't answer or show any emotions, he just kept walking. All of this was being filmed live and broad casted all over the world. Mr. Cruz was the hot topic on every news channel. His humility was enough for King to release his sisters. He saw his mother in the background crying and he knew why. He pulled the girls closer to him and got down on one knee. He told them that he was taking them home and their vacation was coming to an end. He explained that they needed to tell everyone that a clown took them or else their big brother would get in trouble and wouldn't be able to see them again. The girls hugged King's neck crying saying that they didn't want him to get in trouble. They put up their pinky fingers to symbolize a pinky swear to keep their vacation a secret. They hugged and then King dropped them off at a shopping center. He disguised his voice and called the police. He told the police dispatched that the missing girls were spotted at the shopping mall. He watched as seven police cars swarmed the shopping center and rushed to the girls. Once he knew that they were safe, he headed to the hospital to see Penelope.
