"Let's give a warm welcome to our next guest. . . Alex White!" The announcer says as I start to make my way onto the small stage.

As my footsteps passed the threshold, I hind all of my emotes and put on a serious face. You've got this.

Walking to the middle, I look up and see the crowd. There are at least 100 or more people here tonight. I could make some really good money.

Once I'm there, I take the microphone out of it's stand and turn to look at Sam.

He gives me a reassuring nod and months, 'You've got this' and smiles.

I nod and turn back around to the other side of the stage. I give a nod to the guy near the music player and turn back around to the crowd. Just breath.

I take a deep breath and look down.

It's show time.

As the sound to 'Waves' by Dean Lewis starts to play, I look up to the crowd and breath.

When the first verse of the song starts to play, I start to sing.

'There is a swelling storm
And I'm caught up in the middle of it all
And it takes control
Of the person that I thought I was
The boy I used to know

But there is a light
In the dark, and I feel its warmth
In my hands and my heart
Why can't I hold on?'

Singing has always been my best friend. The one thing that never let's me done along with music. It's my comforted zone. That's why I don't get nervous when I sing.

I've been singing for as long as I can remember. I took lessons at the age of 4 and all through my life and am still doing. My parents were always supporting of me and my singing. Around when I was 14, I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to become a song writer. I started writing songs around 15 but they were never good. So, I took it upon myself to work harder and finally, I made a song. It's the only song I've every kept. Not even Sam knows about it.

As the next part of the song plays, I get lost in the music.

'It comes and goes in waves
It always does, always does
We watch as our young hearts fade
Into the flood, into the flood'

'The freedom of falling
A feeling I thought was set in stone
It slips through my fingers
I'm trying hard to let go
It comes and goes in waves
It comes and goes in waves
And carries us away'

As I turn my head to the side where Sam is, I see him smiling.

Sam has been my one and only friend for the last 5 years. In high school, I never really had friends and nor did I want them. I've always kept to myself. Once I graduated from high school, I decided to at least make one friend when I got to college. And so, we meet in college, my freshman year, in one of my English classes. He was a bitch at first, but then when he saw me singing in the music room, he said that he wasn't trying to be a smart ass and that he was just antisocial. Well, that changed pretty quickly.

As I look back at the crowd, I get lost in the music once again and sing my heart out like it's the last time I'll ever sing again.

'Through the wind
Down to the place we used to lay when we were kids
Memories of a stolen place
Caught in the silence
An echo lost in space
