Hours went by and I couldn't help but feel like I betrayed Sarah. I mean I was the closest to her out of everyone besides Kie. I left my house to see if I could find her. I was gonna go find Kie and ask if she's seen her but I went to the one person who might know.
"Hey, Topper! I know we've never really spoken but... have you seen Sarah? I really need to talk to her and I have no way of communicating with her." I breathed heavily after running from my house to the boat dock at Topper's house.
"No I haven't heard from her but um we can go look for her. Hop in!" He helped me into his boat and we were off.
The image I saw was terrifying. Topper pulled Rafe off Sarah and beat him until he was down on the ground. She laid under the water in metal tub. He helped her out as she coughed up water she inhaled. I know I should've helped Sarah but I ran to Rafe.
Before I could make it to him Topper pushed me and hovered on top of Rafe. He clutched his shirt into his fist. "If you ever touch her again...if you ever touch her again, i'm gonna kill you. You got that? You got that, Rafe?!" He punched him one last time before taking off with Sarah.
"Topper stop! You're hurting him!" I yelled as he grabbed rafe and released his shirt aggressively.
"I'm hurting him? He's a monster!" Topper wrapped Sarah in a towel while she continued to cough up water.
"Just go! I can handle him." I screamed at Topper.
"Br...Brin." Rafe pleaded for me with his arm laying over his chest. I crouched down beside him. "Hey...i'm right here. You're okay. Everythings fine. I got you." I laid his head in my lap and leaned my head onto his forehead. I tried my best to help get the blood off his nose.
Once again...here I am protecting the boy who doesn't deserve it but he will always be my reason.
Once Rafe was able to stand on his own he leaned on the railing of the docks. I sat on top of the railing beside him.
"Rafe...what's going on? You are not acting like yourself. You haven't been since I met you. I want to be on your side but I can't when you don't tell me whats wrong." I looked over my shoulder at him. He was still in pain from Topper beating him...which he deserved none the less.
"It...it's like I tried so hard t-to please my dad an...and I know he'll choose Sarah. All I-I want is for him to..to tell me he's proud of me and...and that he loves me." Rafe's words broke my heart. Ward has always cared about how his family looks to other people. He doesn't give a shit how they're feeling.
I watched as Rafe spoke as the tears fell from his face. He needed help and no one gave him that. Ward always told him to get it under control but he never gave him the help he needed.
"I'm so sorry Rafe. I know he loves you even if he doesn't tell you." I put my hand on his arm softly.
"He just..he makes me feel like shit." His breathing picked up and I knew he was getting angry.
"Rafe just calm-." He slammed his hand on the railing of the dock. I felt the vibration underneath my butt. He started pacing and was starting to freak me out but I stayed calm because if I freaked out it would make his anger worse.
"I..I want him to be proud." The tears continued to stream down his face. "I know hun...come here." I walked over slowly and embraced him in a hug. His head fell into my shoulder as he cried and his arms wrapped around my waist loosely. "You're fine...I got you. We'll get you through this...I promise." I reassured him in hopes to calm him down.
He pulled his head out from the crook of my neck and starred into my eyes. His hands went from my waist to gently holding my face in his hands. "Rafe...I love you. You know I will always choose you." Next thing I knew he smashed his lips onto mine.
He gave me a soft smile as he pulled away and rested his forehead on mine. "Will you be mine...again?" All I could do was smile like an idiot. "Rafe...Ask me again tomorrow okay? Tonight probably isn't the best night." I softyly spoke, not knowing how he would react.
"Okay." He whispered before pulling me into a tight hug.
The next morning I woke up and checked the space next to me...empty. Rafe left me a note saying he went to go meet Barry. I sighed and got ready for the day. I decided since I hadn't seen anyone since yesterday that I would try to make things right. All I could do was try right?
I drove over to the chateau and Pope, Kie, and JJ were all sitting around the surf shack. I knocked on the wood of the shack and peaked around the corner.
I walked slowly up to Kie who was sitting in a chair. "Hey guys." JJ stopped waxing his board and looked up. Pope turned quickly.
"What are you doing here?" Kie asked not turning her attention to me. "I understand that you guys are mad at me and i'm sorry. At the time I thought it was best for Rafe and I but now I know that it's only making things worse. I never once told the cops it was John B. And honestly what I never told Rafe was that I said it was Ward who did it." Kie snapped her head around quickly. "You said it was Ward and no one believed you?" She asked me. I nodded yes.
All of a sudden we heard a car horn. "Did you hear that?" JJ looked beyond the shack.
We walked out of the shack and to the front of the chateau. It was John B!
"Oh my gosh! There's no way!" The four of us ran to him.
"Guess who's out the clink, boy!" John B excitedly cheered.
We group hugged altogether. "We missed you!" Kie told him.
"How'd you do it? You bust out?" JJ asked him.
"Uh, they dropped the charges." John B had a small smile on his fave. I was glad to know that he was home but now who would be at fault for peterkin?
"Wait...where's Sarah?" John B stopped to look at us. I stayed quiet not letting anyone know about last night.
"She went to go meet Wheezie last night. She didn't come back." Kie blankly responded. I knew exactly where she was.
