Thirty One

"Did you just said we're having twins?" Nick asked, not even sure what the doctor had said.

"Yes, twins." She smiled, wiping the gel off of Selena's tummy. "Would you like sonograms?" She asked. "Yes please, can we have two copies?" Asked Denise. "Sure, I'll be right back." She smiled as she went out the door.

A squeal left Denise's lips. "I can't believe you're having twins!" She said clearly excited. She smiled and gave Selena a huge hug and then rubbed her tummy. "Me too." Selena whispered. "What's the matter with you two?" She asked the two.

The couple should've at least happy with the results. They should've happy that they have two healthy babies inside Selena's stomach and that nothing went wrong. But for some reason, the couple was acting a bit hard about the situation.

The doctor came back and handed them the sonograms. She helped them schedule the next appointment and they were on their way.

It was a bit silent during the car ride home. Denise hated the fact that the both of them did not even react or at least showed how they felt about having twins.

"What's the matter with you guys? I know if I'd have twins, I'd certainly be happy right now." Denise said. "Mom, now is not the time." Nick said calmly. "And when is the time Nick?" Denise asked. "I don't know, but it's not now." He repeated.

He parked the car in the garage and walked quickly to his room. He wanted to be left alone. "He's not happy about this." Selena said exiting the car. "Honey he is, he's only trying to let it all sink in." Denise said while shutting the car door.

"Are you sure?" She asked. "Yes. Now how about you two go on and talk about how y'all feel about it." Denise said, playfully pushing her to the stairs.

Selena made her way up the stairs and opened their room door, closing it after. She walked in to see her fiancé sitting on the edge of the bed, holding his head. She walked close to him and sat down. "Nick." She said, putting her hand over to his shoulder.

He shrugged her off and stood up abruptly. She jumped at his actions and looked at the overwhelmed man. He stood there trying to catch up with his heartbeats.

"Twins!?" He yelled at her. She looked up at him and shook her head. She began to cry. "Twins were not apart of the plan!" He yelled. He paced back and forth, combing his hand through his silky curly brown hair.

"I can't raise twins! I have a job and a life to fulfill." He sighed. "And you think I don't?!" She jumped up and yelled. "I didn't dare think that I would have any kids, let alone twins!" She cried. "I didn't ask for this either Nick, but it happened.... we're having twins. Whether you like it or not." She said.

He looked at her, tears forming in his eyes. He didn't ask for twins and yet this happened. He had a whole life ahead of him and now it was crushed by his kids, and so he thought.

"Whatever." He said and left, slamming the door loudly. He marched down the stairs angrily. "Nick what's wrong?" Denise asked as she saw her angry son descending from the staircase.

"Not now mom." He said as he left, slamming the door. "What's going?" Demi said walking in. "Nick, he's out of it." Denise sighed and rolled her eyes. "Why?" She asked. "What's going on?" Dani asked confused.

"It's Nick." Demi said. "That was him slamming the door? What for?" She asked. "I'm afraid it has to do with the baby." Denise sighed, not wanting to announce the family yet. Above their ceiling, they heard a distinct sound: Selena sobbing. "Let's go check on her." Denise said before quickly running up the stairs and into her room.

Selena sat on the bed, head in hands, crying whatever that was left of her tears. "Honey." Denise said sitting next to her and hugging her. She sobbed and held onto what was supposed to be her future mother in-law. Demi and Dani came in and locked the door. They went and sat next to each other on the bed.

"What's going on Sel?" Demi asked. "Please tell us so we can help." Dani added. Selena looked up at the two and wiped her eyes. "I don't know anymore. We had an argument and he took off. I just..." She wasn't able to finish the sentence as she continued to sob. The girls gathered around her and gave her hugs, comforting her.

She was devastated that Nick would act like that, after what he had promised to her. Was this really it? Was he going back on his word, his promise to her?
