THIRD PERSON POV
Beverly woke up at ten in the morning, ecstatic that it was finally winter break. Almost two weeks school free. She made hot cocoa for her and her brothers, and Dallas who popped up around noon with Johnny. Snow began to fall outside causing Ponyboy to list the possibilities of what they could do like sledding or snowball fights. Dally scoffed at the childish ideas but Bev could talk him into it if she wanted to. Darry left his room dressed in a suit in tie.
"What's he occasion?" Sodapop asked.
"I have dinner date with April, it's an early Christmas present," he smiled, pleased with himself for the romantic action.
"How sweet, my boy is all grown up," Beverly joked.
"I'll be back late, don't wait up for me," Darry said before walking out the door.
BEVERLY'S POV
"I'm bored," I complained to Dallas, laying my legs across his lap while he sat on the couch.
"Okay, let's go out," he suggested.
"Where too?"
"Not sure yet, let's figure it out on the way."
"Okay let me get ready." I looked over to Ponyboy and Johnny looking out the kitchen window watching the snowfall. No need for them to tag along, they looked plenty occupied. Besides I wanted to spend alone time with Dallas.
I got ready quickly. I dug down deep in my closet to find a grey knit cap and mittens, it was freezing outside and I'd rather look goofy than cold.
"Let's go. And don't comment on the mittens."
"I like the hat, looks good on you," he winked. Linking our arms we began to walk down the street.
"So where are we going?" I questioned, breaking the silence.
"You'll see," he smirked. What could he be up to.
After walking into the West side of town, where socs lived, I gave him a critical side glance.
"I don't think we should be here," I whispered, wanting to stay under the radar. Walking in soc territory with a greaser who was known for his bad behavior was a bad idea. I refrained from speaking my mind any longer when my vision was blocked by the palm of Dallas's hand.
"Just a second," he guided my with one of his arms wrapped around my hips, then he moved his hand revealing an array of lights. I stared in astonishment at the beauty. There was never pretty displays like this around our neighborhood. This was a rare sighting.
"Pretty great, huh?" he tried eliciting a response.
"Try really awesome," I smiled excitedly.
"I knew you would like it " I felt his eyes on me as I admired the lights shine bouncing off of the glistening snow.
I rested my head in the crook of his neck, his arm still wrapped around my hips. I truly appreciated Dallas, he helped me see the beautiful things in life. Not just physical beauty either, but he unleashed so much more. It was why I loved him. Moments like this were rare with a guy who put up such a tough exterior, so I tried to cherish it.
We began to walk back to the East side hand in hand. Dally stopped dead in his track when we walked past an all too familiar blue mustang.
"Let's get some revenge on this jerk," Dally mumbled, his mood swinging from giddy to more pissed off.
"Please don't hurt anyone, I've had enough violence."
"I'm not," he said pulling a key from his pocket, instantly I knew what he planned on doing. He dragged the end of the key along the back of Bob's car, then paused to offer it to me. I was finishing what he started when I was interrupted by someone scolding us.
"What the hell? Is that you Winston?" it was Bob and he was running straight for us. Dally grabbed my arm and started running down the street. I ran along side him, sharply inhaling the frigid air. In all of the chaos I looked to my right watching Dally in his element. His smile beamed and his hair blowing back. He still held my arm in a tight grip making sure I wasn't left behind. Bob only chased us for a moment before he gave up, knowing he wouldn't catch up to us. Dally kept running until we reached a dark alley way on the East side of town.
"Did you see the look on his face, priceless," I began to laugh uncontrollably, so did he, "who knew being bad could be so much fun!"
"Well I did of course," he said smugly. I rolled my eyes at his arrogance. "Don't tell anyone about that or I'll kill ya." As if.
"About the car?"
"No about the lights. I don't need people thinking I've gone soft."
"You're an ass," he shot me a pleading look while pouting his lip, "I won't."
As a thanks he placed a kiss upon my lips. He placed his hand on my cheek, pulling my face in close. I wanted to stay here with him forever, but his soft lips weren't enough to get my mind off of the fact that I couldn't feel my face.
"I think the coast is clear, time to head back home," he frowned at the cut off to our romantic moment.
The heavy snowfall continued on our walk home. If the snow didn't melt overnight this would be perfect for sledding. Dally neglected the idea at first but it only took a little convincing for him to agree.
As we approached my house I watched a scene fold in front of my eyes, unsure of what we'd just walked in to. Nat was briskly walking down our walkway leaving our house after yelling something at one of the boys, which one I was unsure. I saw Two-Bit starting to go after her but I saw how angry she looked. I told him it would probably be better for him to let her cool off and he agreed. I took notice to the snowman in our yard, that must have been what happened before all hell broke loose. Ponyboy stormed inside while the rest of the gang quietly followed after him. They all sat down awkwardly, clearly avoiding eye contact with one another. The whole gang was there, except Darry who was on his date and Johnny who left shortly after Nat did, and the silence was killing me.
"What the hell happened?" Dally interrogated clearly bothered by the quietness too.
They exchanged glances with each other, waiting for one of them to speak up.
"Ponyboy was being a dick to my kid sister," Two spoke up, channeling some anger.
"Was not," Ponyboy argued back.
"Was too, and you kind of have been since she's gotten here. I know we've been through a lot Pony but imagine yourself in her position. Moved to a new town with a family she doesn't even know to get away from her father, if you can even call him that and she doesn't know anyone at a school she has to start half way through the year. I'm not gonna defend her hanging around with socs at school but cut her a break, if you told her why the socs were so bad instead of telling her to drop her only friends at school maybe the outcome would've been different. That's all I'm saying," after dropping a bomb like that on us, Two-Bit just walked out of the house.
I was astonished, that was probably the most serious I've ever seen Two-Bit, and I could tell by everyone's expressions that they were thinking the same thing. Pony went off to his room looking upset, whether it was with himself or Two-Bit I couldn't tell.
Dally and I scurried off to my room to finally rest, I was so tired after such a long day, not to say I didn't have fun.
