BEVERLY'S POV

I ran through the dark park as fast as I could. Wind pressing against my face, forcefully trying to slow me down. I heard the leaves on the trees rustle while branches shook. The shouts behind me getting louder and louder. The footsteps running faster. They were catching up to me. My lungs burned due to the sharp inhales of the freezing air but my feet couldn't stop going forward.'This can't be happening' I thought. Not again. Something was different this time though. All the way across the rest of the park and at the end of the pavement I saw Dallas. He was straight ahead but really far away. I kept running for him, hearing him scream out my name, warning me of the soc behind me. What he didn't know was there was a soc behind him. I screamed to tell him but only silence left my mouth. They were going to kill Dallas and I couldn't even tell him, I was helpless. I was tackled to the ground by a soc, the same one who put me in the hospital. I tried to call out Dallas's name to see if he was okay, but I couldn't make noise. The soc pulled out a pocket knife and I witnessed my own inevitable demise.

Tears raced down my face, I tried suppressing my cries but some slipped from my lips. Beside me was Dallas. I gripped his hand, assuring myself he was still here. I felt him rubbing his thumb against the back of my held hand, realizing I must've woke him up. He turned to me, a tired yet concerned look painted on his face.

"What's wrong Bev?" he asked, pulling me into his side with the arm closest to me.

"Just a bad dream," I told him, not wanting to lie but also not wishing to elaborate.

"Ya wanna tell me about?"

"No it's okay. Let's just go back to bed," I doubted I'd even be able to sleep after that. I'd been having nightmares like that one since the night I was jumped but none of them felt that real. Also this was the first time Dally was in one of them, and in danger. It made everything a whole lot worse.

We both laid back down, he now held me in his arms. "I'll always protect you Bev," he whispered before drifting off to sleep.

I woke up only a few hours later, this time when it was light out, still tightly embraced in Dally's arms. He looked so cute when he slept I didn't want to move and wake him, especially since I felt bad for waking him up last night. But the more awake I became, the more I felt my body's excruciating pain. I needed to take my medicine.

Gently removing Dallas's arm from atop of me, I slid off from his bed. I crept over towards my coat draped over a singular chair which stood alone in his room. I reached into the coat pockets struggling to find my bottle in its depths. After finding it, I tip-toed my way to his bathroom and washed down two pills with sink water. When I turned to leave the bathroom I noticed Dallas still in bed, but now leaning up against his headboard, awake.

"Good morning Dal," the greeting peacefully lingered in the air.

"Hey Bev, it's a little early don't you think?" I looked out of the window to notice the sun just barely over the horizon.

"Yeah sorry I didn't mean to wake you. I couldn't sleep."

"No need to apologize. Since we're up wanna go get something to eat?"

"Sure that sounds good!" I smiled at the idea but then realized I must've looked a mess, still wearing the clothes I had on last night, "Actually maybe not. I'm kind of a mess."

"No you're not," he rolled his eyes noticing my expression was unchanged. "You can borrow some clothes of mine if ya need," he offered.

"Thanks."

He tossed me a pink cropped sweater and a pair of his own rather tight jeans. There was no way he owned a sweater. Especially one with half of the fabric missing.

"Now where did you get this top?" I questioned, curious, knowing that it wasn't his own.

"Uhh- I-" he paused for a moment to think but then gave up. "It's from another broad. Must've left it here on accident. Never saw her again to return it," he sighed but looked shameless.

I let out a defeated "oh" and took the clothes to the bathroom to get changed. It bothered me to wear another girls clothing, one that had probably slept with Dally, but I couldn't show him that. This stuff was just usual to him, it was a well known fact. That Dallas Winston changes girls like he changes clothes.

I left the bathroom after changing and Dally shot me a lopsided smirk.

"You look a lot better than she did in it anyway."

I rolled my eyes and joked, "Is this your way of telling me you like me?"

"Shut up."

"I'll take that as a yes," I winked at him as I left his room.

We drove for only a short while until we pulled up at our usual diner, The Dingo. Dally held the door for me as we entered and were seated by a waitress around our age, who I could tell was eyeing Dallas flirtatiously. I brushed it off at first. I ordered a hot chocolate while Dallas got pancakes and coffee.

"That's all your gonna have?" he asked due to the lack of food in front of me.

"Not hungry."

"You need to eat Bev, especially with the meds your on. Here have some of mine," he offered whilst sliding his plate towards me.

"No thanks."

"Oh come on. Don't make me force you to eat like a child."

"Okay fine, I'll have a little," I hissed not wanting to cause a scene.

To my dismay, the waitress approached us once again, her eyes not leaving Dallas.

"Anything else I can get you?"

"We're good thanks," I said bluntly, shooting her a look.

She returned a disgusted look, sharply turned on her heels and marched off.

"What was that all about?" Dallas asked, not looking up from the plate of pancakes he was practically devouring.

"She was obviously hitting on you," how could he be so oblivious to the fact.

"Oh I didn't really notice, guess that's cause I'm here with you, not her," he spoke putting an emphasis on the "you."

"Eh you're right. I shouldn't act so jealous."

"Jealous," his eyes were now looking up at me, I swear I saw a sparkle in them, "I never thought you were the type."

"I'm not," I sounded like I was trying to convince myself more than him, because he was right. I was jealous and I know it's an ugly look but I could not help it.

"Yes you are. Beverly Curtis is jealous over me."

"Stop it!"

"No need to get your panties in a twist. I like seeing this side of you. It's hot."

I felt my face burn from embarrassment, unsure what to say. All I could manage was, "Now can we get outta here?"

"Wait just a minute, don't you think we should tip the nice waitress."

I knew he was kidding and only saying it to annoy me, but my heart couldn't help but drop. I stood up from my side of the booth and forcefully yanked him up by his arms. I tossed the exact cash amount we owed onto the table and held his hand, rushing out of the restaurant.
