BEVERLY'S POV

I woke up to what sounded like arguing coming from outside. I immediately became a little bit scared, and couldn't decide whether I should check it out or stay in bed.

DALLY'S POV

Before I could even put out my cigarette, I was waking up the gang to let them know there was bout to be brawl. There's not a time when greasers and socs have a drunk encounter and it doesn't end in a fight. Before the socs could reach the Curtis's house we were all lined up out front, even Darry woke up to help us, which we were gonna need because there was about ten socs and seven of us. I only recognized Bob and Randy, they were the leaders of the group of assholes. I remember one time a while ago, Johnny and Pony were hanging up at the park and they nearly killed poor Pony, but Johnny cut Bob real bad and they let em go. Sadly, Bob lived another day and continued his attempt at making our lives hell.

"Hey grease balls, looking for some trouble are ya?" Bob yelled, he was only a few feet away from us now, I could smell the alcohol on them. I took a drag of my cigarette and then put it out, trying to look tough.

"You guys are. You're on our side of town," Pony snapped back.

Bob got pissed after he said that. "You think you're so tough for a little guy," and with that Bob swung the first punch at Pony.

BEVERLY'S POV

Once I realized the arguing was coming from my front yard, I decided to investigate. I crept slowly down the hall and to the front door, hesitant to see if the guys were inside and safe. When I saw the empty living room, I felt like I was gonna be sick. Another gang must of came around here trying to drunkenly start a fight. I hadn't seen too many fights besides the ones at school, but gangs almost never came around my house to fight. I peaked out the front door and saw my little brother Pony get punched square in the nose. The guy who punched him in the face was a soc, I could tell by the way he was dressed.

Before I even thought what to do next my feet were out of the front door and I was faced with the cold air. It didn't stop me though. I ran straight up to the soc who hit Pony and punched him in the stomach. I was filled with adrenaline and focused on beating the shit out of this soc. I didn't want to but once I hit him first I knew he'd try to beat the hell out of me, so I couldn't give him the opportunity. If he would of been sober he probably could of killed me with his own two hands, but he was drunk as could be, putting him at an automatic disadvantage. I didn't notice this at first, but the greasers could of used my help anyway because it seemed they were outnumbered.

After I had this guy on the ground I backed away, I didn't want to hurt him too bad, honest I didn't, I'd only wanted to get him back for what he did to Pony. It wasn't until I was backing up towards the house when I realized most of the other soc guys were on the ground or taking off running. The only thing I could hear was my heartbeat pumping loud as a drum, until Darry started yelling my name. I was ignoring him at first because I was kinda in shock. I never been in a fight besides play fighting with my brothers and stuff. One time I fought a girl at school because she was running her mouth about me and my friend and my friend didn't do anything about it. I was standing up for her and one thing led to another, but besides that I'd never been in a fight.

"That was awesome Bev," Soda said to me with this big smile on his face.

"Hell yeah that was totally bad ass," Two Bit exclaimed and patted me on the back. Steve nodded his head in agreement.

"It really was," Johnny said, only loud enough for me to hear. He came up to me and I noticed he had a little cut on his face. Then I remembered why I was out there in the first place, Pony took a fist right to his face. I looked for him urgently only to see him with a half smile looking at me, with blood running down his face.

"Oh gosh. Let's get you guys cleaned up." As I began to walk toward the house I searched for Dallas only to see, what looked to me, like an extremely impressed expression on his face. I tried not to, but I smiled back at him and I'm pretty sure I blushed a little bit. Then I ran inside to get bandages and stuff to clean Pony and Johnny's cuts.

I handed Pony an ice pack. "That's gonna leave a mark," I spoke calmly to him, hoping he wouldn't be too upset.

"That's okay. It'll make me look tough."

Before I could even respond I noticed Darry towering over me, looking not even nearly as pleased as Pony was with his almost broken nose.

"Bev what the hell were you thinking," he said to me. The angry tone in his voice took me by surprise at first.

"I- I don't know Dar. I heard arguing and the next thing I know Pony's getting punched in the face. I had to go help him."

"No you didn't, I don't need my sister getting hurt because she's too busy trying to play hero."

"Darry I'm sorry I wasn't thinking," I realized the room was silent making me even more anxious.

"Clearly not, don't let it happen again."

I was now on the verge of tears. I only wanted to protect Pony, I didn't mean to upset Darry. Did he not think I could protect myself? And maybe I wasn't thinking but he doesn't need to treat me like a total idiot. I walked to my room without another word being said. This time however, I didn't fall asleep right away.
