CHAPTER SIXTEEN: NIGHT SKY
" I hope I never lose you,
hope it never ends, "
- cornelia street (taylor swift, 2019)"Diana... Diana!" Yael called out to Diana the moment she grabbed her bag and her jacket as she opened the door for herself to leave after bidding goodbye to his parents and his brothers.
It's odd, it's really odd. He didn't like this. This feeling from the very moment he laid his eyes on her after she talked to his mother. Her expression, what was it? What happened? Why?
It felt like years when it's only been weeks... why... why does she look like that/ Why does she have that expression on her face? He hates it, he really hates it.
"Please... Diana..." he called once more, Diana stopped walking and didn't even bother to turn around to face him.
Diana was pissed, annoyed, but mostly sad and crushed due to Yael's mom's words. She knew it would hurt, but not as painful as she thought it would be. Diana couldn't take it, she didn't want to let Yael see her like this, in so much pain, knowing that he would only blame himself and she didn't want that too.
"Yael..." she takes a deep breath while holding any tears back with the clutch of her hand on top of her chest tightly.
"Diana... anong problema? We were doing great, I don't understand... did I do something wrong o masyad--"
"I am alright, Yael. It's just--"
"No, you're not alright, Diana. Could you at least look me in the eye and tell me the truth? 'Di ko 'to gusto, 'di ko talaga 'to gusto, I want to see you so... please."
Slowly by slowly, Diana turns around to face Yael with a blank expression. No reaction, expressionless, yet her lips are shivering in fear that a tear might escape from her eye. Everything that's going through her mind is to just be strong, that it will be alright, it will be.
"What happened?"
"What do you mean?"
"Avoiding me and other things... and you were just talking to my mother and--"
"Do I even have a chance, Yael?" she asks without any more hesitation but with the only intention of giving up at this point.
Yael's eyes widened in shock and his breathing quickened immediately with his hands turning into a tight fist, not being able to say anything. He's surprised and scared to say anything, he's scared that he'll say the wrong words and he'll only leave her heart broken, he doesn't want that.
"Diana... Dia--"
"Have you ever even thought of truly loving me? Of truly falling for me? Have you? Because... because I'm going crazy here. Nababaliw nanaman ako, okay naman ako dati nung nagsimula ta'yo kaso naghihintay pa rin ako, Yael." Diana pauses, taking a deep breath again.
Yael was still struck. Something was stuck in his throat, he couldn't say it or maybe he couldn't make it escape from his lips, he doesn't understand and he didn't know.
"I don't even know if it meant anything at all, we held hands... kissed... and texted every day and night. I told myself na magiging okay ang lahat at alam kong malapit ko nang makuha ang puso mo, na maghihintay lang ako... maghihintay." A single tear escapes from her eye, but it didn't stop her anymore, not anymore.
