Without taking my eyes off Y/n, I raise my hand and send the approaching Sedh flying away. I helped Y/n to her feet and we make it for the doors. As we ran, it dawned upon me that Shuaya must have been notified of the little disruption we have caused. I shook my head, we have to try nonetheless.

She pulls me to take a left from the doors. I don't pause to question her judgement, she's been here longer than I have. It's weird that she had the idea of running away at the exact moment I had decided to do so too. She keeps on taking turn after turn after turn, deeper and deeper into the castle instead of getting away. Y/n halts inside a big, bright chamber, sort of like a vault and makes a beeline for the end of the corridor.

Holding us in place, she stands and waits upon a tile. My stomach drops as the tile falls down, leading to another level. She runs to the other end again and again we go deeper.

The third level wasn't spectacular in the sense of having a lot of artifacts, but it was spectacular to be holding a single artifact that was emitting huge magnitudes of power. It tempted me as much as the Tesseract did, which is, needless to say, quite an accomplishment.

Y/n was utterly enchanted by it, moving in front of me, she pressed her palms and forehead on the glass casing the crystal was held within, almost as if she's talking to the crystal.

Without turning around, she dropped her right hand by her hips, palms towards me, curling her fingers inwards, she called me closer to her. I complied and went in close. Her hand had returned to the former spot on the glass by the time I reached her.

She brought out a small device in front of us from her pocket, it was a small music box, a mini vinyl player. I had seen her with it, trying to play it, but no sound ever came from it. She tried playing it again, and lo and behold, music poured from it!

Soft piano tunes settled in my ears, a strange softness engulfed us. I was enchanted by the simplicity and ease of the notes. It had a quality to it that couldn't be ignored. We stood there in peace, letting the notes wash us over. My heart and soul danced to them. Everything was forgotten for the duration of the music. Y/n faced me, her eyes soft and full of recognition. I hoped wistfully that that recognition was me, that she recognized the God in front of her, recognized the menace in me, the mischief in me, that she, recognized me.

Tears welled up in her eyes and I followed suit. She was beginning to recall, to remember, and most beautifully, she was beginning to trust her reality, little by little. Her hands found my robes, touching and tracing them. Once before she had dug her nails into them, and I have never forgotten that moment, I can't ever let go of it. I can't let go of my darling mischief.

She absentmindedly placed the music box on the pedestal of the crystal and closed the gap between us, placing her head sideways on my chest, and in that moment I felt her, I truly felt her. Her troubles, her pain, her anxiousness, everything ran through me and I understood fully her predicament. But in this moment, when the two of us should be running as far away as possible, it was silent and calm. Neither of us were in a rush, we had stolen this moment, and we were going to devour it.

The music never stopped and I prayed that it never should. I rocked Y/n in my arms slowly, I could feel her crying and there was nothing that I could do to relieve her. All I had to offer was my support and support I did, with all the might and energy in me. I used my magic to fix her hair and clothes, after all I remembered that clothes worked as memory to the times we wore them in. Y/n would love a change of clothes.

I conjured up the most lovely green-coloured combat suit for y/n, the pockets came equipped with knives and various other weapons. The fabric was light, stretchable and breathable. I instantly felt a small wave of happiness and delight from her and it filled my heart with affection.

Before I could register it, the music stopped and a loud bang threw the two of us to our sides. Everything became a blur before we could focus on anything. I saw the hazy figure of Shuaya, advancing towards us from a cloud of smoke and a trail of debris. He was supposed to be fuming with anger but kept it within himself to look calm and composed.

Y/n and I scrambled to our feet, she was still shaken but put on a brave face. My default expression of 'neutral and calculative' was set.

We were ready.

"I must say, the two of you create quite the team. A mystic freak and a monster."

His words pierced through every shield I had kept between the world and me. A monster, that's all I'll ever be, that's all I'm destined to be. Though that's not what had bothered me. Him calling Y/n a mystic freak did the job.

I grit my teeth and lifted my palms charged with magic, "How dare you!" I sent a blast towards Shuaya and it hit him but not hard enough. Strange, he should've been knocked out.

"Calm down, it's no use. This powering crystal here has been dampening your powers, which, I'm amused to inform, you haven't noticed."

Is that why I wasn't ever able to fully heal Y/n? Even though I thought my powers would be too much, it still wasn't being fully used. Shuaya knew this, from the beginning. But what he doesn't know, is that Y/n can amplify my powers. Together we can overcome the dampening force.

Moving stealthily, I brushed my fingers against Y/n's knuckles. I told her what I was planning on doing, telepathically. The shock in her eyes told me she understood.

'Y/n, on the count of three.'

'One.'

'Two.'

'Three.'

A full force blast was sent towards Shuaya, his eyes widened with shock as he saw the intensity of the magic quadruple with Y/n's hands in mine.

We hit him square on his chest, just as we planned. His flying back shattered the glass case, just as we hadn't planned.
