Chapter Nine Assassination Fails

The next morning I was playing cards with Chiyo as we casually started talking.

Chiyo: Did you sleep well?

Aki: I sure did! Thank you!

I honestly couldn't sleep at all…not after what happened last night. Suddenly Kotaro walked up to Chiyo and I.

Kotaro: Shizuka

Aki: Y…Yes?

Kotaro: I need to medicinal herbs in the mountains. Come with me.

Aki: Okay Tojiro, please excuse me Chiyo.

Chiyo: Yeah! We can play cards later!

Aki: Okay!

I began to follow Kotaro as I waved back to Chiyo. We walked out of the village, and up the long path on the side of the mountain. Kotaro seemed even more quite than usual it seemed odd. I began to wonder about last night with the silence between us.

Kotaro: …

I looked to him and remember Kotaro saying, "That's what a ninja has to do. In order to keep ourselves safe, we have to get rid of them." I know I need to understand him, but it's all becoming scary! Kotaro sighs heavily and pulls his gun out that was on his shoulder.

Kotaro: I'd rather not involve you in this, but I can't leave you alone. 

I watched as he starts to ready his gun then stops and looks over to me.

Kotaro: I understand how scary I must be, but for now just stay by my side.

Aki: …

I nodded my head and stared into his eyes. He is going to shoot Nobakatsu with his gun, and if he doesn't kill Nobakatsu then the ninjas are done for. As the ninja princess I am the symbol of the whole conflict. I look over the valley and it was still so far from the north valley. Can he shoot from here?

Kotaro: Can you see that bridge over there? It spans the valley.

Aki: Yes…So that is how Nobakatsu is going to come?

Kotaro stays silent and continues to prepare his gun. Finally after a few hours fifty or so samurai start crossing the bridge. I could see some of them as some expensive armor.

Aki: That must be Nobakatsu Oda…

Just as I blinked my eyes, BANG! BANG! Kotaro fires of his gun and the bridge falls. I couldn't believe he could shoot the rope from the bridge way out here.

Samurais: AHHH!

The Samurais scream as they fall into the valley.

Nobakatsu: AHHH!

Samurai: SIR! (Swoosh!)  

Someone starts pulling up Nobakatsu up by a net.

Aki: What is that?

BANG! BANG! Kotaro shoots off his gun a second time.

Nobakatsu: They're aiming from over there! Shoot back!

Just then Blue ninja rushed towards Kotaro and I. Kotaro shoots off his gun for a third time. The Blue Ninja return the fire and were shooting back.

Kotaro: Shit…

Aki: AHHHH!

Kotaro grabs me, picks me up and runs off into the mountains. After some time hiding in the trees the Blue Ninjas left and Kotaro and I snuck back into the village.
