Megumi did not managed to hear the shadows' whispers, but their expression filled with terror they showed before they vanished was enough to let him know that the Red Butterfly has arrived at the shadows' forest. There still wasn't any sight of him, however, he was close enough for Satoru to feel his presence.
By being somewhere in the shadows' forest, it would be impossible for Megumi to enter the door that leads to the Butterfly's Realm. Because of that, there was only one thing Satoru could do: fight against Sukuna in order for Megumi to have an opportunity to run and hide.
However, a part of him did not want to separate from Megumi. Only for the whole reason that he's the son of the Black Butterfly and because he is only a kid. Leaving him all by himself it's truly dangerous, especially when he is the prey of a very dangerous curse.
If the red butterflies did not have their own mind and acted by their own free will, then surely would have been a perfect plan. And if the Blue Butterfly had never betrayed his brethren, there would be no problem for Megumi to reach the Butterfly's Realm.
In fact, for the hour that Megumi passed all alone in the forest, Suguru could have already accomplished his task of bringing him to the Black Butterfly, or perhaps they would be almost at the door that leads to the realm in this precise moment.
But now the task of bringing the child of the unseen safe and sound to the Black Butterfly has fallen into the hands of Satoru, taking completely the place of Suguru. Even when the Black Butterfly didn't tell him anything about it, it was clear that the role of escorting the kid belonged now to him.
"Protecting and escorting the child of the unseen," Satoru spoke to himself, receiving a glance from Megumi.
"That man is here, right?" Megumi asked, bringing Satoru back to reality.
The voice of Megumi did not quiver, nor his face showed any signs of being scared, still Satoru was pretty sure that he was at least uneasy by knowing that the Red Butterfly have come back to take him away.
"I suppose that there's no point in lying to you when you already suspect that Ryomen Sukuna is here," Satoru did not have any intention of hiding it or even to lie. "He's here. And he's close."
By hearing the confirmation of Sukuna being here in the shadows' forest, it only took a second for the fear on Megumi's heart to awake once again. "You're not going to leave me alone, right?" He looked at his feet the moment he asked that question to Satoru, trying to hide the fear that started to fill his eyes. "You're not going to leave just like him...?
But no matter how much Megumi tried to hide his fear, Satoru still noticed anyway. "If I leave you all by yourself, even for just a moment, it would be to protect you. I have no intentions to commit the sins the Blue Butterfly did, nor escape from my mission," he reassured, putting his hands on Megumi's shoulders. "I will protect you, Megumi. That's the whole reason why I'm here. You can trust me."
"Then... If we get separated for one reason or another, " Megumi's eyes wandered from his feet to Satoru's eyes, taking a few seconds to complete his sentence. "Are you really going to look for me? Even if I decide to stay with my grandma?"
Satoru wasn't expecting Megumi's last question, thinking something completely different. "For a moment I thought that you will want me to promise you that I will look for you no matter what."
"Why I would say that when your mission is to protect me?"
Satoru let out a sigh, letting go of Megumi at the same time. He was disappointed, but at least he knows now the reason why the kid wanted to stay in the Human Realm. "Never mind that." His voice suddenly turned serious, "Now that you told me the reason of why you want to stay in this realm, just let me to tell you something: you are bound to fall into the Red Butterfly's hands."
