The air felt heavier than before, an evil presence lingering around. Being Satoru they only one who could feel it. The abandoned shrine was already in their view, but there wasn't any sight of Sukuna or even Suguru. Only a few red butterflies were perched on the trees' branches that bare any foliage, while others were fluttering around the place.
The red butterflies were quick to notice the presence of Megumi and the White Butterfly, speaking once they saw them. "Sukuna has been waiting for you, child of the unseen."
Megumi did not respond. Actually, there was no need for him to speak with the red butterflies and it was for the better. Being someone who did not have any way to defend himself, he should let Satoru handle the situation. And as long as he doesn't let go of the White Butterfly's hand, the fear will not take over his heart.
The red butterflies did not mind the silent treatment. "It had passed a few days since you took Sukuna's hand, sealing your inevitable fate. At this point, there's no way your life will be spared."
"So what if a few days passed?" Satoru opened his mouth in the place of Megumi, both of them stopping a few steps away from the shrine. "Having been in the Shadows' Forest all this time, for Megumi, is like time did not pass at all. So, he still haves plenty of time before all the black marks appears on his body and face."
The red butterflies ignored the White Butterfly. It wasn't a surprise to them that he was the one that saved Megumi from the hands of Sukuna. He's a nuisance. An obstacle just like Suguru they must face. If it wasn't for both of them, the Red Butterfly would have already recovered his true form days ago. He wouldn't have to continue devouring the life and souls of unseen children, bounded to return back into a grotesque creature once his time is out.
However, the red butterflies can't let their emotions of hatred or even their cowardice get in their way or Sukuna's. "By making Sukuna wait, it shouldn't be a surprise for you that he had grown tired of waiting. Perhaps your friend had suffered the consequences."
Neither of them believed in the butterflies' words. It was clearly a lie, trying only to wake fear on Megumi's heart. But it was no use, the Red Butterfly had said before that he didn't need to consume the lives or souls of human children anymore. If he really wished and wanted the last child of the Black Butterfly, he would never put at risk the only opportunity he has left to consume his soul. After all, the Golden Butterfly is the last life he needs to devour and the only child the Black Butterfly has left besides the Blue Butterfly.
Meaning that Toge is safe and that the Red Butterfly didn't have any other option than to wait. No matter if that meant to return back as the curse he was after being exiled from the Butterfly's Realm, since even if he would have continued to consume human lives and souls nothing would have changed.
"It's for that reason of why he hasn't shown himself?" Satoru asked, not finding hard to believe that the Red Butterfly doesn't have much patience. "Or perhaps he returned to be the grotesque creature he's bounded to be for all eternity? Hiding his tail between his legs somewhere in the forest," he mocked, trying to imagine a scared Sukuna as a curse inside the abandoned shrine.
The possibilities that something like that happened were too low, because that would mean that Sukuna had lost and the red butterflies would not be here in this precise moment. To regain his true form after turning back into a grotesque creature, he needs to consume more than one child of the unseen.
Yet, even if that's not true, Satoru knows that the red butterflies couldn't ignore him anymore.
"Sukuna can't return to be a curse anymore," the red butterflies were unaffected by the man's mockery. "He already has caught the child of the unseen, freezing his limited time. The only way to return back to being a curse is if the kid manages to escape from his distortion. However, that's something no one can achieve. None of the children Sukuna trapped inside there have ever escaped before, and that kid wouldn't be the exception. This is where the Black Butterfly's child will meet his demise. And you, White Butterfly, will not be able to change that."
