Chapter 1
Lucy's P.O.V.
Ever since the start of whatever this is, my family has never left the farm. We still ride around on the horses, but never in towns or cities. I tried to sneak out once, but got caught by daddy. Let's just say he wasn't too happy.
Daddy thinks the infected are sick. That we'll somehow make a cure and they will return to their normal state and it'll all blow over. I dont think we'll ever go back to the way we were though.
Daddy even keeps the infected in our big barn. A waist of a good barn if you ask me. I don't really agree with what he's doing, but I don't say anything either.
I un-tackled Annie, my chestnut Arabian horse, and put her into her stall. I worked around the horse barn with Charlie, my German Shepherd dog, following me like a shadow. I worked until I decided I was hungry. I called Charlie and began to walk to the old farm house.
Suddenly, Charlie began barking towards the direction of our field. I looked to see a man running towards our house. I ran to the porch and grabbed my rifle.
"Daddy!" I called, "Maggie!"
I look down the scope of the rifle to see the man carrying a wounded, bloody boy in his arms. The man had on a sheriff uniform. He had another man following him, along with Odis.
They neared the house as Daddy, Maggie, Beth, and Patricia came out. Charlie growled and tried scaring the stranger by running at him.
"Charlie, no!" I command.
Charlie stopped running, but continued to growl.
"Help me," the stranger said, "Help my boy."
I winced at the pain on his voice.
"What happened to him?" Daddy asked.
"He was shot by your man." The stranger replied quickly.
Daddy jumped into action. "Alright, Maggie, get rags and hot water. Lucy, get my supplies. Beth, clear a spot. Bring your boy in here."
I ran to get Daddy's supplies. Odis and the other man, who had thick, curly dark hair came into the house too. I knew Dad would want to put the boy in my room because it has the best lighting. The man put his son on my bed after Beth took the blankets off. The man looked like he wanted to help, but I knew he was in shock.
"What's your name?" Daddy asked the stranger.
"Rick--it's Rick Grimes." The stranger replied with a very shaky voice.
"Rick why don't you step outside for a moment?" Daddy said as he basically pushed Rick out the door. "Rick" stood staring at the door.
"Rick, is it?" I ask from behind him.
He turned and stared at me for minute. Was he checking me out? He nodded.
"I'm sure your boy's gonna be just fine." I assured with my southern accent slurring my words just a bit.
He didn't say anything, so I changed the subject, "Have you eaten yet? I can make you something."
"I don't think I can eat right now. It'll just go to waist." He said, looking down.
I nodded, "Why don't you sit here?" I offered, directing him to the couch.
"His mom doesn't even know." He mumbled.
"What?" I asked, coming closer to him.
"His mother, Lori, doesn't even know he was shot." He said at the point of tears.
"I'll get her." I declared. "Where is she?" I asked.
Rick told me the directions and I grabbed my rifle, my handgun, and a baseball bat. I started out the door but my sister Maggie grabbed my hand.
"You can't just leave. What if something happens to you?" She said with worry hinting her voice.
"I'll be fine, Mags." I assured, "Just don't let daddy know."
I ran to the barn and saddled Annie back up. We ran in the direction Rick told me.
