A/N; Guys, I have a really bad toll on this book. She's really annoying and very very mean. She's hurting my feelings. When I published this first chapter, I never expected to have trolls and haters. The thought never crossed my mind. I just wanted to tell you guys that.
::::::::::::::::::::::::
Lucy's POV.
"Where's your dad?" I asked Carl and I petted Charlie on his head. I was relieved that he was alive. Beth told me that he came back with the black woman, who's name I learned was Michonne. He was badly injured, but he'd be okay.
Right now, Carl and I stood on the second floor of our cell block. It was just us. I hadn't the slightest idea where everyone else was.
Carl shrugged, "I dunno, outside maybe."
I could sense something was wrong with him by the antisocial sound in his voice and his gloomy, sluggish way he carried himself.
"What's wrong, bud?" I asked him quietly and gave Charlie a kiss on the top of his head. I stood up and planted my hands on my hips.
He turned to face me and shrugged.
"Nothing. It doesn't matter."
"Yes, it does. It matters to me, Carl." I stopped him from walking away.
He sighed and averted his eyes to the ground.
"I think my dad hates me..."
I shook my head, "No...no, Carl, he doesn't hate you-"
"Yes, he does! He hates me because I killed mom. He hates that baby too." He pointed at the baby in her make-shift crib, made out of a plastic tub, beside us.
My stomach dropped at his words. I felt so bad for him. For all that happened to him for these past few days. He lost his mother and he was beginning to lose his father.
I opened my arms out for Carl. He reluctantly hugged me around my waist. I hugged him tightly, trying to make him feel better.
"Your father loves you, Carl. So did your mother - very much. He loves Your little sister too. He's just having a nervous breakdown." I tried to explain to him, never breaking the hug. "And I love you too."
He looked up at me in shock, "Really?"
"Yes, really. Your my favorite little bud. Your my best friend." I smiled down at him. Though, I hardly had to look down; he was already almost as tall as me. He came up to my shoulders.
"You always know what to say, Lucy." He mumbled.
I almost laughed but quickly caught myself, "Oh I don't know about that. But if it helps, you can always talk to me about anything."
I broke the hug and he gave me a lopsided smile, "Okay,"
"Could you keep an eye on the baby for me?" I asked him as I walked down the grey, concrete stairs towards the door.
I heard Carl mumbled a "sure" so I pushed open the door. I walked out to the fence and gazed out at the prison field.
I put my hand up to block the glare of the midday sun as I spotted Rick outside the walls. I frowned when I saw him talking to himself.
I made my way across the field, stepping through the overgrown grass. I prayed that there were no snakes in the grass. I had always been afraid of snakes my whole life. I despised the slimy, scaly texture of their skin, and the way they slithered around on the ground.
When I approached the chainlink fence, I called out for Rick. He saw me and slowly walked over.
"Yeah?" He asked when stopped in front of the outer side of the fence.
"What are you doing out here?" I asked slowly.
He looked back at the woods and then down at his feet. "Just stuff.....and thangs."
I raised my eyebrow at him. He was very jittery and unnerved. Something was definitely wrong with him.
"Well, um...how long will you be?" I asked awkwardly. I don't really know what to say.
He switched his weight to the other feet before answering, "A...awhile,"
I sighed, "The group is waiting for you. They need you, Rick. Carl needs you."
"I-I know I just.....need to figure out some stuff." He said quietly.
"Whatever it is you know I'd be happy to help you with it." I smiled a little.
"No. No, I don't want your help. I just need s-"
"Some time I know. But we don't have time. The Governor is gonna be on our doorstep any day, and we don't have any defense set up. Glenn is trying to take leadership, but we need you. No one leads like you do, Rick. Carl needs you." I said with irritation creeping in my voice.
"I'm in no condition to lead." Rick said and turned around and began walking back into the woods.
I was shocked. I thought for sure that he would snap back out of it. But my shock quickly filled with anger.
"Carl needs you! Your newborn baby needs you! I need you, your family needs you, Rick!" I yelled out to him and he stopped in his tracks and walked back a few steps towards me.
"You are not my family!" He growled.
I felt my heart shatter into a million tiny pieces at his venomous words. My jaw dropped and I looked at him with wide eyes. I always felt like Rick had loved me in that way. I guess I was wrong. But surely he was just upset over the death of his wife.
I felt a lump in my throat and I looked down as tears pricked my eyes. I was mad at myself for allowing feelings for Rick creep into my heart.
"Lucy, I-" Rick began to say in a softer tone, but was cut off by a loud noise.
We both snapped our heads to the main gate, where a white hauling truck slammed through the fence. The fence where I was standing in.
