Chapter 23; Saying Goodbye

I took a deep breath as I set up my rifle on the roof of a building in Woodbury. I was laying on my stomach beside Maggie. Rick had gotten us set up on top of here before he left to get himself ready. Maggie and I were to stay up here and snipe the Woodburians.

"What did he do to you?" Maggie asked in a low voice.

Without looking at her, I responded with, "Nothing."

"Don't give me that bullsh*t." She turned her head to me.

I sighed and adjusted my scope, trying to ignore her questions.

"Your bleeding all over your face. Do you really think I don't know that he hit you?" Maggie said.

"Yes, he hit me okay? A few times, but that's all he did." I looked over at her.

She nodded at me and I spoke again.

"Well, what did he do to you, huh? Your wearing Glenn's shirt. Where's yours? Did he-" Maggie cut me off sharply.

"No. No, he barely did anything, I swear." She said.

"Then why are you wearing Glenn's shirt, Mags?" I asked as I narrowed my eyes at her.

"Okay! He made me take my shirt off, but that's it. That's all he did." She got quieter at the end of her sentence.

I looked back down the scope of my rifle. I could see the Governor himself as he spoke to the crowd of demanding Woodburians. I put my sights right on his head.

"I'm going to kill him." I promised.

I could see Rick and the rest out of the corner of my eye and I waited for him to give the signal.

Then, suddenly the arena blew up in smoke and everyone started running around panicking.

I aimed at a large African American man, who pointed his gun towards Daryl, and pulled the trigger. I shot him in his chest so that it would kill him, but he would still come back as a biter.

I aimed and shot a woman who was also carrying a gun. I could here the sounds of gunfire cracking down below us. I could hear Maggie firing off rounds at the Governor's goons.

Rick gave us the signal to climb back down and meet around back.

"Come on," Maggie called to me from where she was positioned to my left.

I nodded at her and shot one last man who aimed his rifle at Rick. I slung my rifle on my shoulder and climbed down off of the building.

Maggie and I ran to Rick and the others. We met up in the streets and Maggie panicked.

"Why are we bringing him!?" She pointed towards Merle, who I just noticed was standing behind Daryl.

"We're not leavin' him, that's my brother!" Daryl argued with him.

"We can't argue now!" I yelled over the noise of the terrified people.

"She's right, let's go!" Merle called as he ran over to the walls.

I followed him and he opened the metal wall where there must have been a weak spot.

"Don't just stand there! Come on!" Merle ushered us through. I went out first and shot a biter in the head.

The sun was shining brightly when we made it back to the car. I walked beside Maggie, holding her hand tightly in my own. I had almost lost her back there and it wasn't gonna happen again.
