I woke up to light shining in my eyes and birds chirping outside. I smiled as I got up. Beth and I always got up early and sat atop the barn roof to see the sunrise. It was beautiful to see the sun's rays spread across the field with warmth and joy.I grabbed a quick shower and dressed into a burgundy long sleeve shirt, with jeans, and my black boots. I brushed my long hair and left it hang loose around my rib cage. I went downstairs and made myself breakfast. I ate it quickly and fed Charlie on the porch. I went to check on the boy-er- Carl.
I opened the door to his/my room. I immiedietly regretted doing so. Rick was standing on the other side of the bed, shirtless. He turned around and gave a slight smirk at my shocked face.
"Oh! Sorry!" I slammed the door shut and blushed like a madman. I just saw Rick Grimes shirtless. And he's hot. He wasn't buff but he wasn't scrawny either. He was just right in my opinion. Wait, what? Lucy, get a hold of yourself. He's married.
I hid my face in my hand and thought about what I had just done. I was so embarrassed.
The door opened, revealing Rick in a black t-shirt. He smiled at me, causing me to blush even worse.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know-I should have knocked-" I muttered quickly.
"No, it's okay." He assured as he moved aside to let me in. I squeezed past him and walked to Carl's bed. I checked his bandages and his stitches.
"How is he?" Rick asked in a raspy voice.
"He's real good," I answered him, "His vital signs are well. He should be up and milling around tomorrow."
He smiled as the door opened revealing Lori. She glared at me as she went to Carl.
"Herschel will be in to check on him in a little bit," I said. "He knows a little more than I do." I joked.
"Yeah, I can tell." Lori mumbled.
What the h*ll was her problem?
"Well, I have work to do," I hissed at Lori. I excited the room and went to the horse barn. I started my chores there. I head back to the house for lunch as Shane walked out.
"Hi, Shane was it?" I greet.
He nodded and shook my hand. I noticed he had shaved his head. But there was a small bald spot. It looked like something had ripped his hair out there.
"Thank you for getting the supplies." I said, "If you and Odis hadn't, the boy wouldn't have made it."
He immiedietly looked down in guilt. "He was a good man." Was all he said.
"What happened at the school, Shane?" I asked in curiosity.
"I have work to do." He mumbled as he went back to his camp. Something definitely went down at the school. And I was determined to find out.
Later that day we had a funeral for Odis. Patricia asked Shane to say a few words for Odis. I eyed him as he said a few words about Odis' last moments. I knew when someone was lying. Shane was definitely lying.
Afterwards, Maggie came up to me and told me she was going on a run with Glenn.
"Be careful, Maggie." I said. She nodded and headed off to the barn for the horses.
Later that day, I was carrying a very heavy bucket full of water. Out of nowhere, Rick appeared by my side. He insisted that he carry it.
"I can handle it." I said defiantly.
Rick just laughed, "Sure you can." He picked it up and carried it to the porch for me. Carl came out of the house as we neared.
"Look at you!" I exclaimed.
He gave me a goofy smile.
"Let me know if you need anything for the pain, Carl." I said.
He nodded and left for the yard. I turned towards Rick. "Thank you." I motioned towards the bucket.
"My pleasure." He replied with a sideways smile.
"I know this is kinda random, but who is Sophia? I've heard you guys talk about finding her." I asked.
He averted his eyes towards the floor. "Sophia was Carol's little girl. She was chased by walkers. I went after her but I lost her. Daryl still looks for her but...."
I was quiet for a moment. "What does she look like?" I asked, dreading what he would say.
"'Bought this tall," he put his hand to his upper chest. "Short blonde hair. I think she was wearing a rainbow shirt." He described.
My eyes got wide. Odis brought in an infected little girl that matched the description of Sophia a few days ago. She was in the barn with the rest. They were bound to find out sooner or later.
"I haven't seen her. But if I do, I'll let you know." I muttered as I ran off the porch and to the back yard. I bumped straight into someone. I bounced off of them and landed on my butt. I looked up to see Shane towering over me.
"Sorry 'bout that." He apologized as he helped me up.
"No, it was my fault. I wasn't looking where I was going." I replied, eyeing Shane. I didn't trust Shane too much. Sometimes he seemed nice, but he was hiding something. I could tell he had a thing for Lori too.
"Where were you heading?" He asked, drawing me out of my thoughts.
"Oh, just the horse barn." I lied smoothly.
"That reminds me," he started, "what is that big barn over there?"
I looked to where he motioned to. Oh no. It was the infected barn.
"Oh, it use to be full of animals, but now it's just for storage." I lied.
He thought for a moment. "Seems like a waist of a good barn if you ask me."
"You have no idea." I mumbled as the wind blew my hair into my face a little. I flicked my head to get it off.
"Do you mind if I look around there?" He demands rather than asked.
Crap.
"Oh, no. Daddy doesn't like people to go in there. It's really dusty and dirty. It's also full if junk, so it embarrasses my dad." I lied quickly.
He sighed, "Okay then. I'll let you get back to the horse barn." He said as he moved around me.
I sighed. That was close. We can't keep this secret for much longer.
